[ The air has the scent of freshly-harvested alfalfa saturating it, a faint breeze bringing it from the pastures to the porch of the ranch house. It's an older place, but kept up by the few who haven't left, trying to find some sort of civilization. At least there's enough to maintain things, and enough to forge a lifestyle that isn't frantic survivalism. The old place is self-sustaining, the weather is gentle enough, and the barns are well stocked with plenty of seeds, raw materials readily available... No, Karel doesn't mind spending the rest of his days here, save for the absence of his family. After so long, it's perhaps best to abandon that notion and focus on what is here, as opposed to being so discontent with what isn't. ]

There's already a good number of carrots sliced up, celery now slowly piling on top of it. It'll take a little longer with just him doing the work, though.
