The song that reminds me of Billy doesn’t make sense at first. It’s Superman by REM.

I am I am I am Superman and I know what's happening.
I am I am I am Superman and I can do anything.

You don't really love that guy you make it with now do you?
I know you don't love that guy cause I can see right through you.

I am I am I am Superman and I know what's happening.
I am I am I am Superman and I can do anything.

If you go a million miles away I'll track you down girl.
Trust me when I say I know the pathway to your heart.

If you go a million miles away I'll track you down girl.
Trust me when I say I know the pathway to your heart.

I am I am Superman and I know what's happening.
I am I am I am Superman and I can do anything.

I am I am I am Superman and I know what's happening.
I am I am I am Superman and I can do anything

The song reminds me of Billy convincing someone (whether it be Snake or an older child or Hope or even himself) that he can do something. That he’s big enough and smart enough and able enough to do something. In my mind it also alludes to the fact that the adults in his life prior to his first encounter with Mac, incorrectly assumed he didn’t know anything or that what he did know didn’t matter or wouldn’t affect anything because he’s a kid so what does he matter. The verses don’t apply to him as much except to say that he would tell a girl something silly and cheesy like that he’d track down her heart a million miles away.
A song about Billy would have to be cute and catchy and get stuck in your head because that’s what he is. He gets stuck in my head all the time. Billy’s songs are the ones you can sing along too. Plus, Billy’s obsessed with superheroes and I can totally see him pinning a towel to his shirt as a cape and running around playing Superman.
