binaries are clear as day
though the ambiguities sure exist
as prejudices come to the fore
in the mist of anxieties
daunting to pirates out at sea
each his own man's island
the sky is a bright desert sun
but it does not smile as a father should
and instead stoicly looks down as a king
a tyrant uncaring of his people
the world only makes sense
this way, in metaphors and similes
compulsively breaking loose
of one's mind like restless beasts
clawing and gnawing their way
through the psyche, clamoring for
release, howling for articulation
but it's difficult to express
and cannot be said to a human
being, without bringing on
a siren's tears, and medusa's wails
in the middle of the night
the beasts take a breath as they
stand on abstract white surfaces,
declaring their existences to the world
a world that can do without them
