She stared out the window, mind void of any true thoughts. The softly falling snow called to her, but she was bound by the chains of school. She rest her chin upon her palm, sighing in boredom. Study hall was by far the worst class invented.
Her reverie was broken by the sound of the door opening. Her head turned almost automatically to it. Her gaze was flat, as it normally would be. He eyes fell upon the person entering, a young man, her age. Her eyes widened lightly at the sight of him. Attractive would have been an understatement.
His hair was dark brown and fell lightly into his crystaline blue eyes. He seemed to be at least six feet tall. His gait was slow, lumbering. Perhaps he dispised study halls as much as she? His clothing hung loosely off of his thin frame. He was adorned in dark jeans, loose fit and hanging low on his waist. A black shirt with a picture of an oriental looking dragon was covered by an overshirt, also coated in pictures of dragons. It however, was more of a yellow color.
He handed the teacher a paper slip, showing he was new and was to be excused for being tardy. She looked at the paper, then up at him over the rims of her glasses. She looked then to the room, where students were scattered. None were doing work, they were too curious about this new student. Still looking over her glasses, her gaze fell upon the student by the window. She pointed toward her and mumbled something to him. He looked in her direction and their gaze met. He walked toward her and she quickly moved the stuff she had sitting on the desk next to her away to the floor.
It was obvious the teacher would have him sit near her. She was always quiet and well behaved. She normally had work to do. However, the class she had before had a substitute and there were no plans for homework.
He reached her and sat beside her. She smiled and nodded a hello. He nodded back, also smiling. He had set his books and binders next to him, also on the floor. She leaned over and reached for her planner. She began scribbling a small note inside of it, on a past date.
She slid it over to him. Welcome to hell....
He smiled lightly and scribbled something back. That bad huh?
She nodded and rolled her eyes. Her eyes glanced at the teacher, then back to him. A royal bitch. Dont even think of laying your head on the desk, you'll get an ear full of crap from her.
He chuckled very lightly. Same issue in my last school. I had a teacher just like that. It sucked. Guess i cant escape it huh?
She shook her head. guess you cant... hey, what grade are you in?
He looked up as just after the teacher coughed. He was obviously worried they would get caught. He looked back down at the paper and wrote his reply. Junior.... you?
Sophmore... She smiled up at him. The teacher coughed again. Lets continue this after class...?
He nodded and pulled out a book. She took out her sketch pad, and began drawing.
By the time the bell rang, she was back to staring out the window. The bell jerked her awake, as she was dozing off. She gathered her things and pushed her chair in. He was doing the same. She looked at him, and found she really needed to look up to meet his gaze.
"So, an old hag huh?" He chuckled lightly. "I suppose i should take that warning as always have something to do?" His voice wasn't exactly deep, yet it wasnt high either. It was almost perfect in her ears.
She smiled. "Yea, always would be good. Just a book, or a magazine even, to read would be fine. Not that she notices much, but she will notice a head on a desk. I've seen it happen. Not pretty." They both laughed lightly, exiting the classroom.
"So, I'll be seeing you around then." He nodded at her, then took a piece of paper out of his pocket and looked at it. "So, where would room 227 be?"
"Actually, thats on my way to my next class. I'll show you." She turned and headed down the busy hallway. He followed her silently. Not like he had any objection.
"So, whats your name? If you told me, it's slipped my mind." He asked her as they walked along. His hands motioned something escaping from his mind.
She smiled. "Carys..." She stopped suddenly, right next to a door. She held her hand out, as if to shake his.
"Carl." He took her hand and shook it. He noted how cold her hands were. His brow frowned lightly, but he said nothing. He looked at the plaque next to her. 227. She had lead him to where he needed to be. "Thank you, Carys. I'll see you around then!" He nodded to her.
She nodded back. "Anytime. I'll be passing by here after class as well, so if you need help finding your next class, just wait here and ill find you." She smiled.
"Will do." He then walked into the classroom. She watched him go, then continued on to her next class.
For the first time, she had talked to an upperclassman without them completely shunning her. She smiled as she sat at her desk. Study hall was going to be much better from here on out.
