What makes you laugh?
(Inspired by events in the Harry Potter RPG Beyond The Darkness)
There is little in this world that makes me laugh. Many things amuse or please me - getting under Bellatrix's skin, brewing the prefect potion, speaking to Minerva and teasing and bantering with her the way we used when we were both just Heads of our respective Houses - but precious few things actually make me laugh. What is there to laugh about in the world these days? The Dark Lord's death was supposed to solve things, not make them worse. Who would have expected Bellatrix and Rodolphus to take over in the way they did?
So what makes me laugh? Draco Malfoy.
Not in a bad way, not in a condescending way. But in the best way possible. When we fled Hogwarts so many years ago, I would never have thought things would end up the way they have now. Draco took to my training better than I wuld have thought once he was away from the influence of his parents and away from the distractions of his classmates. His constant flirting and innuendo were distracting and sometimes tiresome but we got through it. He has become a credit to my training. An excellent brewer and a superb spy.
Yet even after his training finished, Draco never lost the opportunity to continue his flirting. I never really took him seriously. I am not the kind of man a person like Draco wants... at least I thought I wasn't. Recently Draco showed me I was wrong in the best possible way.
Draco makes me laugh. He is still Draco Malfoy, arrogant, spoilt, petty and a peacock. But underneath that is a true friend, one of the few people I can trust absolutely and someone who understands better than perhaps even Albus did. One who is quite willing to mock himself... and me... in an effort to make me smile and laugh. And around him I feel safe enough to do just that.
I do not know how long this... whatever this is between us will last but I intend to enjoy it while it does. Draco's behaviour leads me to believe he will be around to make me laugh for a while. I can only hope so.
