March prompt #4-Outsider(Part 2)

“Sir, it seems you have a visitor. She claims to have urgent message for you and is here with several others,” a voice said, coming from the other side of the intercom. “Oh and she insisted she get to speak to De Lyncree,” he added, sounding puzzled. Daniel Rockford raised an eyebrow; it was definitely unusual for anyone to ask directly for Alex. “What was that about? Why would anyone here on business care what the boy does? How does she even know who he is?” Jason asked suspiciously. If it was Margaret, he was going to be angry; he didn’t need her being a thorn in his side yet again.

“I suppose we’ll just have to see. Go fetch him,” Rockford said, motioning for Jason to leave. “Send them in, but I want to speak to the girl first,” Rockford said, a warning tone in his voice. He had no idea what kind of business a young girl had with him; he hadn’t had a young girl working for him since the last one and she had been dead for years now. It really was a pity; she had done a fine job and had managed to not only kill her mark, but cripple his family and ruin them. She had even taken it upon herself to teach his boy how to improve at weapons and focus more on stealth training. Kyla had been beside himself and blamed herself for both her niece's death and Kiraga’s accident. Since then, every young soldier or agent he had was male, even if females weren’t actively turned away.

“I don’t want to be here,” Alex mumbled. He hated Jason and was having a good time playing with Valerian and Kalpani. The school was small, but so far, aside from Kalpani and Valerian, a few people had started to arrive and it was nice. “What you want is irrelevant, young man. Someone who has business is coming here and she specifically asked to see you, so you’ll do as you’re told,” Rockford said sternly. De Lyncree should have been grateful to be alive, yet he was whining and sulking as usual. Rockford had taken the boy in and treated him as if he was his son, yet all the boy did was act ungrateful and whine for his dead parents and his dead beloved. “She did?” Alex asked, biting his lip. He hoped it was his mother or Kiraga; he knew they’d come home for him someday.

Stop being ridiculous; everyone you’ve ever known is dead and you have to move on. If someone ACTUALLY wants to see you, be grateful they’ve taken an interest in you, boy. “Her royal highness princess Kalika Abina De Lyncree requests an audience with you,” his assistant said before moving out of the way. Alex only hesitated for a moment before barreling into her arms; he had no one left and it was good to see her, even if it had been three years. His heart hurt, he was alone and his family was dead. Don’t say that…I’m here, aren’t I? I never forgot that night, you know. I always wondered what you were doing in the far, far forgotten lands. “I guess this means I don’t have to tell you what being a big kid is like again,” Kalika said, laughing as she shook her head. “Ne pas ennuyer. ..tu avaient raison. It does suck,” he said, scowling.

“My, my…Gabriel never mentioned having family that was alive,” Jason said, an edge in his voice. Between the fact that De Lyncree wasn’t letting go of the girl and she was being so affectionate and familiar with him, this wasn’t good at all. “Grandfather wasn’t in the habit of mingling with peasants, commoners and city folk,” Kalika said, sniffing arrogantly. She didn’t care what her uncle said, she remembered everything Luke said, as well as everything Viral and Perry said; she didn’t like anything she heard about Jason Weke at all. Even her mother wanted to vomit and she and her uncle argued constantly about Varuk’s future. Alex was trying to be serious, but only Kalika would be so cheeky; he couldn’t help but smirk.

“So…you’re from the Lost City, I take it?” Daniel said, noticing Kalika’s outfit, as well as the symbol emblazoned on her arm; it was the only thing that kept him from killing her, aside from the obvious fact that she was pregnant. Jason was right; she was entirely too close to De Lyncree, she knew things and the fact that she boldly came in here claiming to have “business” wasn’t a good sign. “Indeed I am and if you can direct me to Gabriel, I have an urgent message for him. Come on…it’s my turn,” Kalika said, looking at Alex expectantly. She was nervous considering the horrible things she’d heard about Gabriel from Marcus’s family and others, but her grandfather, her father and her uncle always praised him to the skies. Her uncle loved her more than her father did, so Kalika decided to trust his opinion.

Rockford raised an eyebrow, wondering just what exactly he was missing. However, he simply looked at De Lyncree, deciding it was the boy’s responsibility to ruin his family reunion. “You…you can’t meet my father, even if I saw yours that night. My family is dead and I’m alone now,” Alex said, looking down. He hated having to tell her, knowing what it meant and how terrified she’d be; he could only hope Kalika wouldn’t leave him, do something stupid or get in trouble. “What? That…that’s not true; we would know by now. Word…it would have come, damnit. How…why…WHAT HAPPENED?! PEOPLE LIKE US DON’T JUST DIE IN AN INSTANT!” Kalika shrieked, her voice rising. She was terrified now and even if Jason would probably give her uncle the city after they killed her father and uncle would give her the Citadel, they’d still kill Tristan and her mother and uncle were still in danger. She had always heard horrible things, but Gabriel had her grandfather’s face and she had hoped that when she met him, it would like meeting her grandfather. Even if his vision was slightly insane, several of his ideas were amazing and he had left Kalika his secret study on purpose. He must have known she’d use it the way Tristan wouldn’t and Kalika couldn’t bear to have all of the experiments destroyed or burned. She was trying to remain calm, but she was extremely upset and she could feel the circuits running through her veins.

“What…what on earth is she doing? Make her calm down!” Jason said, backing away. If the girl was an elemental, she could have just made lightning strike them down instead of having currents run through her veins. “Oh fuck you! Don’t talk to my sister like that! You’re the one who made me tell her my father was dead! Why wouldn’t our human’s family wonder what happened? Obviously if they were working for him, they’d wonder why no one gave them any news,” Alex snapped angrily. Truth be told, he was scared as well; he’d never seen her out of control before. Then again, he’d never actually seen her powers, aside from the time she used the memograph. It really was different to see circuits coursing through her veins instead of just out of her hands.

“Move, people, ” Perry said, shoving Alex aside. He didn’t want to be mean to Luke, but he had his unborn cousin to worry about. He grabbed her hands and tried to form a link with her. Listen to me…you are around DANGEROUS people. These assholes make your uncles, your father and the slave traders look like characters on Sesame Street. If there was ever a take to put your game face on, this is it. I’m begging you, breathe. I don’t know what happened to Gabriel either, but I’m glad the bastard is dead and you don’t know that you’re in danger. Jason’s not going to kill us because you have the fucking letter and you’re too damn useful. Kalika took a deep breath, but her head hurt; she had too much pent up energy. She dug her fingers in her hair and closed her eyes, rocking back and forth. “Fuck….” Perry said, biting his lip. He hadn’t been around last time this happened, but Marcus told him and it sounded painful.

Alex was in shock at this point; between Perry being back in his life and not knowing how to help Kalika, he was overwhelmed. Her aura was charged all over the place and it really was strange to see it so static. “It’s rather strange to see Gabriel’s human's grandchild displaying such an…interesting display or power,” Rockford remarked, raising an eyebrow. It was definitely useful and the girl’s aura was strong, but if she came from a human, it was odd. “It’s about to get a lot more odd if you people don’t back off, focus and get down to business,” Perry barked. “Fuck them…get it out of your system; Bako will understand,” he said, looking directly at Kalika. She opened her eyes, only to have two blasts of pure lightning come out and set a lamp on fire. A moment later, she passed out and everything went black.
