Authors Notes/Disclaimer: This is a scene that I will expand further upon and incorporate into my actual WIP.

Once the Earth had stopped quaking and shaking beneath his feet, he slowly made his way outside to take a look around. Chaos was reigning within his usually quiet community. It did not come as any surprise to him, however, given that this was the largest of the three quakes that had already occurred that afternoon.

He watched with interest as his neighbors hurried to gather their families together and what few belongings they could take with them as they began to evacuate their homes. They had been warned, he told himself, almost as though the reassurance would bring him some sort of comfort.

For years, he’d been telling them this day would come, but none would listen. His words had been viewed as nothing more than the incoherent ramblings of a senile old man. Now, he supposed they would realize that he’d known all along of what it was he spoke. Now that it was too late, of course.

With an inner calm that few could match or understand, he began to wander the streets of his neighborhood. Everywhere he looked, he saw the same scene unfolding before him. Panic and chaos among those that hurried to evacuate. Some would make it, he silently noted to himself, but more would not.

Atlantis was coming to an end, but even that knowledge did nothing to surprise him. After all, it had been coming to this for years now. Energies building. Situations escalating only to erupt in climatic conclusion the likes of which none had seen in their lifetime. This just happened to be how it appeared as it was manifesting.

For the first time in years, he was able to be honest with himself and admitted that there was none more responsible for this situation than he. He had been the one to ultimately orchestrate it. Oh, for certain, he had done much over the years to convince himself otherwise, even as situations had unfolded that would eventually lead to this day. But the truth of the matter was that there had been a large degree of manipulation to bring those situations about, in which he’d had a hand.

Quite a number of years ago, when it seemed that his people would not fully carry out the plans, which had first been laid down for Atlantis, he had consciously altered the settings of the Great Crystal. Aside from controlling the other ‘lesser’ crystals, it controlled energies that affected their world in ways that few were aware of, let alone few could understand. As a result, great amounts of energy were emitted, which affected the populace at large. More dense energy than was conducive to maintaining a peaceful co-existence. That was all it had taken. The people of Atlantis and human nature had done the rest.

Essentially, the increased energies had assisted in dampening the connection the populace normally maintained not only with Source but those off world. Introduce material goods and spur a sense of competitiveness to outdo one another, and the people of Atlantis had been driven slightly mad.

He knew within his heart that he ought to be experiencing some sort of remorse. After all, there were many that would perish from this situation. A situation, which would be described in the annals of history by those that did survive as a ‘senseless tragedy’. The truth of the matter was, though, that remorse never once entered into his heart. He’d only done what he considered to be necessary. There was a great deal that was contingent on the outcome here. More than any of the others could understand or even imagine. Entire civilizations… They would not experience all they potentially could, if they remained here within paradise. They needed to move out into the distance. Though, if it had been left in the hands of the others, they would still be right there, and nothing would be accomplished in the end.

At hearing the sound of screaming in the distance, he closed his eyes against the twisting of his heart in his chest. He’d only done what was necessary. It was a sentiment that he continued to tell himself, even as the water of a tsunami came crashing in around them. In the end, all would prosper.
