Book 131 (2011): blueeyedboy by Joanne Harris

Since late November I've been unwell and placed on a medication that interfered with my ability to read. As a result I didn't reach my goal of 150 books for 2011 and did not write up the balance of my 2011 reviews. Will attempt to catch up in the next few days.

Wow, that sounds great! As much as I love to follow people "home" to their own LiveJournals from their posts elsewhere, it sounds like it would be of interest to me. Thanks for the recommendation.

Okay, THAT was weird... I just checked the website for my hometown library system. They do have "blueeyedboy", but only in Russian. They've got lots of other books by her in English, but not that one.

I'm going to have to dig into this a little further.

PS -- I forgot to say, I'm sorry to hear you've been sick, and I hope you'll be feeling better again soon!

Maybe they'd be open to a request for it?

It was a condition that threatened my eyesight and it was more that the treatment which was a short course of powerful drugs had tons of side effects that messed me up for 6+ weeks. Happily the treatment did work so was worth the temporary problems.

I asked about it at my favorite (independent) bookstore today, and though the seller was familiar with her work, he'd never heard of it. I told him my findings at the library website, and that roused his curiosity even more, so he dug into it for me.

Turns out that blueeyedboy has never been released in the United States, only in the UK and Russian, and a couple of other countries. I think I'll be looking into this further to find out what's going on.

I used to review journals when that was a fad some years back and this remined me of that - though this is like reading the LJ entries of a very disturbed person.
