What I've been learning this past week or so is that it's very hard to help someone who doesn't think they want or need your help. Sometimes, it's just wasted effort, and all that happens is that you're dragged into the mudpit with them.

I'm not saying that's the case here, but it's something that you should be careful of. White knights tend to get dirty fast.

I think I can kind of commiserate with the kid...I did not exactly start college with the sense of belonging. I actually admire people who can be comfortably alone, knowing that the whole world is against him/her yet still being able to act with indifference, even if it's just pretense. I can't even pretend!
