Just a quick break before I go back to working on my paper that's due in 8 hours:
I really like Sara Bareilles' recent album. It's got my toes tappin' at this ungodly hour (4:25 AM) and magically keeping me awake. Also, of the songs I've heard so far, I've already found a few that in my opinion are a lot better in a lot of ways than King of Anything.
Hold My Heart > King of Anything
But only in some ways. Lyrics-wise, I like King of Anything because she's giving her guy the smackdown. Hold My Heart is beautiful in an energetic way, and it's rare that I enjoy a song this much when the lyrics don't mirror what I'm feeling.
I kinda wanna throw this album on somewhere and just have a listening party. I literally just sat back, stared at the ceiling (the Price Center ceiling is a piece of work in itself) and listened to the songs play for half an hour just now, totally killing time that I should've been using on this final paper.
But DAMN it feels good.
Oh yeah, about that sprained neck entry:
I went on a staff retreat with my club back in September (the 25th, to be precise) to Coronado Beach. If anyone ever comes down to visit me in San Diego, we need to go there. So I gave my boogie board to one of the other staff members, and not a minute after I strapped it onto her wrist, a big wave comes over all of us and takes out three or four of us. I tumbled and my head hit the ocean floor, staying there.
But before I could curl myself up, my body twisted, and I heard--and FELT--the pops go down my back all the way down to the bottom of my shoulder blades. After I got washing-machined (as the triage nurses called it), I got up on my feet somehow, spotted the first staff friend I knew, and shouted/screamed/yelled, "JEREMY! GET ME THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!"
After he got back on his feet, dazed, he turned to see me, and his expression was of horror. He helped me limp back to our spot on the sand, and we eventually decided to call the lifeguard over.
The lifeguard called a paramedic.
The paramedic called an ambulance.
And I got put on a stretcher, shoved into the back of the ambulance, and got driven to the hospital. After about an hour and a half, they found out that I just had a sprained neck. The X-ray showed that my vertebra were fine, but my muscles, ligaments, and tendons were stretched, strained, or torn, but the doctor didn't mention specifically how the damage was distributed. I got out of the hospital in a neck brace, and I had to wear it for the next couple days. The rest is history :D
--== EDIT ==--
I also really, REALLY like the song Uncharted from Sara Bareilles' album. Makes me wonder why they play King of Anything and not this and Hold My Heart on the radio stations down here. Damn shame.
