After spending all week feeding .qif files to GnuCash, I've found out why the bulk job I did Sunday blew up. One of those files is apparently corrupted; it's failed to load on three separate attempts so far.
Good news: It's not my checkbook.
Bad news: It's my IRA, which may well only be second to the checkbook in the number of transactions recorded.
I think my first fallback position will be to try to export that data again. If I decide I need to type data in by hand, I'll probably only use the most recent X amount of transactions, and ignore anything older than that.
