Happy first week of 2008

Well, I did mean to post sooner about all of the fun (slightly sarcastic there) things I've been doing this week, but you know life happens. Went back to work on Monday and well, didn't get a whole lot done since pretty much the entire department was out on vacation still. I went in hoping that we would get let out early so I could do some shopping. Well, that didn't happen, however, we did have lunch brought in so that was a nice bonus. Then I decided that I needed to go to the grocery store after work to pick up a few things for New Years Day dinner. That was kind of a mistake. There were lots and lots of people picking up the last minute alcohol and black-eyed peas and collard greens. But I managed to get out of there and made it home and treated myself to a yummy Trader Joes wood-oven baked pizza (very, very yummy I might say) and a few drinks and an evening of watching movies and supposedly unpacking. Nothing like a low-key evening. Much to my surprise, John called. I had thought that he was still in PA but that was not the case.

We talked for awhile and he didn't really seem to be in that perky of spirits. He gets periods of depression, especially when he's been working hard on a project and then he finishes it, he gets into a funk after that. Not that I'm qualified to say so, but it kind of sounds like a bit of manic-depression. I'm not saying that he's manic like Chris used to get, but he does tend to focus very hard on projects, to the exclusion of pretty much everything else and then he gets depressed when the project is done. But he did perk up some while we were talking. Since he had no plans, I invited him over to watch movies and so we spent New Years together and it was really pretty nice.

My goal on New Years Day was really to go out and go shopping and take care of the things that I didn't do on the 29th because I got a call from Elizabeth in CA who talked to me for 4 hours. However, I soon became very lazy and vegged out and watched the outdoors NHL game. I have to say that the game was really pretty cool and that as much as I like hockey, there is no way that I would sit out in the snow and sleet and cold for hours watching a game. No, sir. Then all too soon it was back to the working world. Sigh! At least it was a short week this week. It has been a little hard to focus on work stuff though I really should since I have class next week. But that shouldn't be too hard to prep for.

Had some excitement yesterday. I was getting ready to go to work and my car wouldn't start. Oh joy! So I tried it again, and still no luck. So I thought that I would call Anthony to see if he was still home and see if he could come over and help jump start my car. Since he lives in the complex and all that. No luck there either. Sigh! Now I was getting frustrated. Alan and Janera (neighbors also) were my last choice before I had to suck it up and call AAA. I just hated to waste the free service call on that. But then my neighbor saw me and helped me jump start my car and it all worked just fine. However, I did take the suggestion that I was given to go to Advance Auto Parts to have my electrical system checked out to see if it was my battery going bad. I wasn't sure because though my car didn't start in the morning, it started just fine in evening. So after work, I went over and had it checked out and yes, my battery was bad and I had to buy a new one. But since I bought it there, they also put it in for me. So it was all taken care of without having to take time off work to go to the dealer. They also replace windshield wipers which I will take advantage of later on.

And since I was in John's neck of the woods, I went over to his house and hung out for a few hours. The boy is starting on his work for Duke Business school and I made the comment that once he started school he wouldn't have any time to hang out and he just smiled and said that he might have to make time. It's things like that that make me feel like we're dating while not necessarily a couple. I hate to say this, but I hope he doesn't get into Wharton, I would hate to have him leave town, that would be hard for me. So for now, I am just going to enjoy the time that we have together.

Rehearsals for Faire start in a few weeks, that should be interesting. I'm not in charge this year, which is really, really nice. However, I am helping out the person in charge, which means that there will still be plenty of things for me to work on and help out with. I'm talking with the seamstress that made my dress about getting a new underskirt and sleeves in a different color and pattern so that I can mix and match the outfit a little bit more and to save me the money of buying a whole new dress which I really can't justify spending the money on a whole new dress. But that's not saying that I can't get a new bodice and overskirt next year to match the new pieces. I'm thinking about getting the underskirt and sleeves in a green or a gold color so that it will harmonize with the black and bronze of the original dress. So it should be pretty cool. I also need to get some more bling but I think that the rest of the nobles guild can help me with that.

I hope that the Director can step up with some things because otherwise the Executive Director will drive us all nuts. We've got a 5 year planning meeting next week and I really don't think she is going to like some of the things that I want to say. And let's just leave it with that.

This weekend looks like I'm going to do fun house stuff. I really need to get some more organizing things for the kitchen and master bedroom. I would like to start unpacking some more things. I'm getting tired of boxes. I'm also going to hit up the HT triple coupon sale. Time to stock up for the winter which is of course changeable. For the last 3 days, it's been really cold and next week it will be in the 70s. Sigh!

Ok, time to go and work out

holidays, fun with friends, faire
