And while it is cold and grey out, I want it to keep raining. We still
need a ton of rain to make up for the lack of rain this summer. I'm
just worried that now that we've had some 2-4 inches fall, the idiots
who feel the need to have a green lawn no matter what, will be out there
watering their lawn. I try to conserve water but I don't know how good
of a job I really do. It's not like I'm watering my lawn or washing my
car or running a dishwasher in the current place. However, in the new
place I will get some of those aerators that you can put in your faucets
to cut down on water flow. Yep, responsible, that's me.
But anyway...Let's see what have I been up to? Well, work and packing
and stressing about getting everything done before it's moving time.
Tuesday night was darts night and what wasn't fun was that we only had
3 players show up. So that meant we had to play with a ghost which is a
way of saying that we don't have a player and in the doubles and 4
person games the other team would get to throw and we didn't. Not so
much fun. It was kind of funny but Dave G showed up and wanted to see
if he could throw, but since he had been taken off the roster so that we
could add someone, he played as the ghost so that the players on the
other team could get a practice in. The funny thing was that he won
both of his games. Sigh!
I have to say that this lack of players is well, kind of Anthony's
fault. He got two players added to our team without us meeting them or
even having them come out and watch a match just based on a friend's
recommendation that they were "fun people". I mean, they just showed up
and didn't even know the rules of the game! Well, the female player
wasn't that much fun and it was really pretty obvious by the end of the
evening that she didn't find this fun at all and it was no surprise to
me that she said the next week that she wasn't going to be able to make
the rest of the season. The male player did pretty well and seemed to
be having a good time, but it turns out that he's got some chronic pain
issue and won't be able to play because he's in too much pain. So we
wasted 2 slots on people who aren't playing any more.
I wound up telling Anthony that for next season, if we had newbies we
wanted to add, it would probably be a VERY good idea to take them out
before the match and have them play a game and explain a bit about the
rules and explain how the evening will go and then have them see a match
BEFORE anyone commits themselves. See, if someone plays one game and
then bails on the season, we can't replace them with another player. He
said that we hadn't ever had this kind of situation before, but thought
that it would be a good idea. Not like he's really going to take me up
on it.
Back to the match...I won my 301 game and lost my cricket game which I
should have won, but I couldn't hit the bulls. Oh well, I did get a 5
mark that game though. I think I won 601 and doubles cricket. Believe
it or not, but Darrell won his doubles cricket game playing by himself.
So that meant that we had to win 801 to win the match. Now bear in mind
we were playing with 3 people while they were playing with 4. The game
was sort of close, then they pulled away, then Darrell hit a Ton, so
that helped. Then I managed to hit a 114 and that really, really
helped. We wound up winning the game and the match and it was all fun.
I'm somewhat annoyed at my game because once again, I shot bullseyes in
warmups and couldn't do it in the game when on Saturday I could hit
them. But I also think that I aggravated a muscle in my forearm because
it was starting to hurt. Oh well, we are off next week so that will
give me time to rest and all that.
House stuff: Before darts on Tuesday, I did stop by the Home Depot and
pick up a lot of paint chips even though I don't think I'm going to
paint for a long time, it is fun to look at colors. I also started
pricing fridges. I'm not really picky about what I want other than it
be white, freezer on the top and at a minimum of 18.2 cubic feet. I
need to check my measurements to see how tall the fridge can be. I
looked into getting all my services set up at the new place and most of
them can be done on line amazingly. I did have to call to get the gas
set up and will have to call and get my water set up. Stupid town of
Cary wants either a deposit or a letter of good standing from a utility
before they will set it up for me. What's making this fun is that the
people are still living in the place and so that's making it kind of
interesting to set up the utilities. So I figure that I have some time
left before I need to worry. I managed to grab some more boxes from
work and John got me at least 3 big computer boxes that will be perfect
for packing dishes and yes I do have a lot of those. So this weekend
will be packing and cleaning out closets and posting stuff for sale on
Craigslist. I mean if I can make some money and reduce the amount of
stuff that I move then I am all for it. I will have all my knick-knacks
packed by Sunday (provided that I don't run out of newspaper). And that
is with me going to a Faire meeting and hanging out with John on
Saturday.
Creative cooking: Well, I got experimental and made a tempeh chilli
last night. It's tasty but the tempeh really doesn't contribute any
flavor and so next time I will just use ground beef or ground pork. It
probably also would have helped if I had actually had garlic in the
house instead of having to use garlic powder. But it really did hit the
spot on a chilly day like this. Of course now I will be eating it for
days and days. Maybe I will just roll it into a tortilla and make
enchilladas or something.
Ok, time to fight off sleepiness and get ready for a conference call in
30 minutes.
fun with friends,
fun with food,
