Time once again for an update. Had Mom staying with me over the Memorial Day holiday which cut into update time. The visit with Mom went well. It didn’t rain, so we could go out and about. Though it was pretty hot. I could have done without that and I know that Mom could have done without the heat.
Thursday:
Picked Mom up at the airport. Her plane was a little late but nothing major. Mom doesn’t like to fly, so it is kind of an anxious experience for her. We swung by Whole Foods and picked up some stuff for dinner. Then hung out and caught up and I wound up staying up way too late considering that I had an 8:30 am periodontist appt. Can you say that I didn’t really get to sleep in? Can you say that sleeping on a futon isn’t that comfortable?
Friday:
Went to the periodontist and everything seems to be fine. No real improvement but no decline either. So that means I'll be seeing him for the rest of my life. Oh joy! Came back to the house and headed out to Southern Season for foodieness. This weekend started their Annual Clearance, so some items were on sale. Even better. Wound up buying way too much stuff. But I got some honey and some olive oil and all sorts of other things fell into my cart.
Went to Royal India for dinner that night and it was pretty tasty. Watched Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and um, well, it was kind of a confusing movie and I really don’t understand why so many of the scenes were shot in low light or in the dark. I felt like I was watching an episode of CSI. Once again, we stayed up way too late.
Saturday:
Went to the Museum for the Egyptian show and well, that was ok. I kind of felt like I was being ripped off for paying $10 to see a few rooms of artifacts, even though they were nice artifacts, there weren’t that many of them. Did some shopping in Cameron Village and bought a birthday present for
small_question. And we managed to do some antiquing. Didn’t find anything all that exciting though. Then off to J. Betski’s for dinner and had yummy German food. Yummy schnitzel and ligonberries. And then Krispy Kreme for dessert since Mom just had to have a Krispy Kreme. And we got there during hot donuts now. Watched a John Wayne movie, “Island in the Sky”. I admit that I kind of fell asleep during part of it. I’m not as much of a John Wayne fan as Mom is. And I thought the movie was kind of boring. But I won’t be telling her that.
Sunday:
Was Church and then brunch at Winston’s with Jenn and Anthony. I hadn’t been to Winston’s in a long time. I don’t know how their lunches and dinners are, but their brunch was really pretty good, very tasty home fries. I normally don't like home fries, but I liked these. I have no idea what we did in the afternoon. And since we had lunch so late, just had a grazing dinner. We did have to watch the end of the Indy 500. Yes, I am a Naptown girl at heart and Memorial Day wouldn’t be complete without the race. I did miss Jim Nabors singing “Back Home Again in Indiana” though. And watched yet another John Wayne movie, “Hondo”. That was ok too. Not a movie I would really watch again.
Monday:
I finally got to sleep in some. We hit up the Farmer’s Market and bought some yummy strawberries, an Italian basil plant and a Thai basil plant and a planter box. We had lunch at the Seafood restaurant there. Fried food, yummy. Hush puppies, even yummier. Even though the strawberries were a little more expensive than at the grocery store, they were really very good. I will have to make more of an effort to go to the Farmer’s Market, considering that I live about 5 miles from it. Took Mom to the airport and had a relaxing evening by myself. So all in all, it was a good visit.
Yesterday, I took a vacation day to recover from her visit and got my car worked on and then did some shopping at Target. I didn’t really do anything else that I had planned on but that’s ok. That’s what vacation days are for. So yes, it is hard getting back into the work groove today. But that’s ok, I don’t really have anything major to do. Volleyball tonight should be lots of fun. We were off yesterday for darts which is good. Our team needs a bit of a break to regroup and refocus.
And even better news, someone else has been suckered into the Entertainment Director position. Ok, I am going to be the Assistant Entertainment Director, but still I'm not going to be in charge and that is such a good thing for me and all of my friends.
