How's that for alliteration? Back from Wilmington and had a nice weekend even though I never actually got to the beach, much less sit out in the sun. Taught class on Friday and wound up having some technical issues again. This time due to a patch that affected network connectivity. Basically half the room could access the internet and half couldn’t. But the class was pretty good about it, or they were good about it to my face that is. I’ll be curious to see the evals. Got class taught and then realized that I needed some things before going home to pack. Yes, I should have taken care of all that on Thursday. Yes, I was stupid. Wound up not eating until 2:00 and had a horrible headache by then. Hit the road closer to 3:00. Not good.
Hit Wilmington at rush hour and took a wrong exit off of 40 and went through some interesting parts of downtown Wilmington. Then managed to drive by the hotel since it wasn’t marked too well. Finally got to the hotel and checked in. I had been invited to the rehearsal dinner but my head was really killing me by then and I figured out that I forgot a slip so I had to go to Target where all sorts of other things fell into my cart. But no slips, since Target doesn’t carry them for some reason. So I didn’t go to the rehearsal dinner and took a little nap and got woken up by MBT. We hung out and talked and then decided to go to dinner at 9:30. Hard to find a place that wasn’t a chain restaurant at that hour. We settled on a Greek restaurant where I had a bunch of appetizers and he had a rack of lamb and we shared some wine. Then off to Walmart where I found the ever elusive slip and back to the hotel. Got woken up at 2:45 by a very noisy group of people. I was not amused.
Saturday I just kind of vegged around, hung out some with Alan, thought I was going to do brunch with MBT but that didn’t happen. But we rode to the wedding together, he was my navigator. It was pretty easy to find but the directions didn’t make it seem that easy. I really didn’t want to get lost in the wilds of rural NC. The ceremony was nice. Sat next to Kim and her husband and filled her in on some gossip. We had a bet on who would cry, Jenn or Anthony. Much to our surprise, neither one cried. Then it was off to the reception.
Had a lot of fun at the reception. It was nice and relaxed. Anthony’s family catered it so we had a pig and all the fixings that go with pig and his family being Polish, we had pierogis. Yummy! It was really nice and low key and very tasty. And the wine and beer were pretty good too. Sat at a table with other volleyball folks and had fun. Even when the photographer came around and wanted to take pictures of the couples and asked “who was with who?” and I had to say that I was by myself, but Mitch added that I was being a good sport about that.
Had a few Dad moments, mostly around the whole walking down the aisle and father-daughter dance. Not like I’m really going to have to worry about getting married the way my life is going.
There wasn’t any bouquet or garter toss but they did the dollar dance, so I danced with Anthony. One of these days I must learn to let the guy lead. I really can’t do that couple dancing stuff. I guess it’s a holdover from gym class where us girls knew the dances better than the guys and pretty much led them around.
All in all, it was a fun evening with friends and laughter which is what a wedding and reception should be.
Slept in a wee bit the next day, due to the wine I had drunk…once again thought I was going to do brunch with MBT, but never heard from him and so I went off to Cracker Barrel for a sodium and fat laden breakfast that really hit the spot. My jaunt to the beach was impacted by having to wait around for Anthony to call since I am watching Jenn’s cats while they are on their honeymoon and I needed the key and all of the particulars. So I waited around for that. Finally talked with him and then headed off to the beach where I drove and drove around trying to find a parking space and had no luck and gave up after 45 minutes.
If I had gone to the beach at 11:00, I would have been fine. Oh well, there’s always the rest of the summer. So I went to Anthony’s parent’s house and got the key and left with 2 bags of leftover pork and pierogies. They would have given me more, but I didn’t need that much. Heck, they even tried giving me wine.
So now I’m back at work. And really, really must go back to the beach….
fun with friends,
