"The social pressures in Argentina to be trim and beautiful can be daunting. The country boasts one of the world’s highest rates of aesthetic surgery -- including breast augmentation sought by girls when they turn 15(...)Currently one in every 10 Argentine adolescent girls suffers from an eating disorder "-MSNBC
(FYI: "One in 200 American women suffers from anorexia" ---www.state.sc.us/dmh/anorexia/statistics.htm)
Why is it that you never here about South American countries problems with weight? Is it because the reverse is happening? Is it because the world doesn't like fat people, but if they're skinny who cares if they are rapidly killing themselves, at least they look pretty. What really irritates me is that American's get such a bad rap for having obese children, but other countries get away with these staggering numbers. This is just one country in S.A., I'm sure it's much worse in Brazil, but the only reason Argentina was even mentioned was that they are "trying" to lower these horrific numbers.
"A study by the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders reported that 5 - 10% of anorexics die within 10 years after contracting the disease; 18-20% of anorexics will be dead after 20 years and only 30 - 40% ever fully recover. 20% of people suffering from anorexia will prematurely die from complications related to their eating disorder, including suicide and heart problems " These numbers are MUCH worse than the stats of people who are over weight. A vast majority of people that are obese live until they are in their 50's-60's. But NO who cares if people in Europe or South America have HUGH issues with eating disorders, DOWN with the US they say because they're fat!
Ok rant finished MERCI!
