For those of you who are in the entertainment industry, you should know that LA's own NPR affiliate
KCRW has some amazing programs regarding our vocation, all of which are archived and podcast on a daily basis.
The Business is a smart and nigh omniscient half hour weekly program that looks at the industry as a whole, from labor relations to audience reactions to economics.
Martini Shot, hosted by by
Rob Long (a co-executive producer of "Cheers," among other admittedly failed sitcoms), tells you--in three minute intervals a week--just what's it's like to be a writer in Hollywood. For one of the best examples of what I mean, you need--and I mean need--to check out the episode entitled "
The Delorean."
On the Beat deals with music industry trends, and by extension the host ("industry veteran Celia Hirschman" -from the site) ends up talking a lot about the future of music. Fascinating stuff!
Finally, there's
The Treatment. I have to say I find they're a bit sycophantic with their guests, but they get some amazing people like David Mamet, Neil LaBute, Edgar Wright and Brad Bird.
So why I am so keen to discuss NPR podcasts? I'm looking for more! I'm poking around some comic book related ones like Word Balloon and Fanboy Radio, but I'd love some music related ones or general interest. What do you guys listen to?
