NaNoWriMo day #6

Day 5:

6,923/50,000 (13.8%)
I suck. And also cough a lot and don't get nearly enough sleep. Day 5 was somewhat hampered by my going home sick at lunchtime and putting my head down and sleeping (and coughing) through most of the rest of it. But I've managed to struggle through and muster 800+ words on even my bad days, which is something. It leaves me with a nasty backlog to catch up with though, which is tedious. Especially as there are a couple of days coming up later in the month when I'm going to be at work all day and out in the evening, and won't therefore be getting much writing done at all.

Day 6:

9,030/50,000 (18%)
A rather better day, though I'm still coughing near to the point of retching and I've kept myself at home again to avoid inflicting it on any of my colleagues. I've done rather more catching up on a week's sleep deprivation than writing, but I have managed to write my daily 1667 and a few more besides, to make a dent on that backlog. I'm currently at 2107 for the day, and the end of the chapter is in sight. So I'm going to take my cough medicine, write those last few paragraphs, and then worry about my missing 1,000 words tomorrow.

I still don't have my internet back, but I'm giving the phone bill a workout on dialup tonight, as the ancient-laptop-in-possession-of-a-modem downloads a bunch of Microsoft critical patches. Thank goodness it was my test install of XP service pack 3, or the effort would probably kill it. It's actually a lot more up to date than a computer I haven't actively used for the best part of a year ought to be.

BT, bless their little cottonsocks, have actually managed to make my line more broken today, rather than less. It's a challenge, but one they're more than equal to.

I'm now thinking that if they don't manage to fix it by the end of tomorrow, I'm going to go out shopping on Saturday morning and buy a dialup modem card for the main computer.

ETA:

9,273/50,000 (18.5%)
Chapter finished, at 9,273 words, and I've caught up with half of my wordcount backlog. Phew. Let's see if I can claw the rest of it back tomorrow in the course of chapter 3.

I shall now follow my character's example and have a long drink of water to stave off dehydration, followed by bed.

nanowrimo, writing... or not, health stuff
