Going spare, one wisdom tooth

One previous owner, low mileage.

I wish I could give the dratted thing away, but alas I'm stuck with it. I am in possession of all four of my wisdom teeth. The two top ones came through with no problems whatsover, one of the bottom ones is slightly buried in my gum at the back, and the other one - the troublesome one - is considerably more buried, to the point where it just peeps out a little bit.

Which means, of course, that it's prone to occasional infection, no matter how careful my dental hygiene routine, so every couple of years it plays up and I spend a week feeling like death and embracing better living through codeine. Right now, the beastie's been giving me grief since Easter Sunday, which is why I've a little elusive on LiveJournal. I find that it's all too easy to notice teeth-related pains when sitting in front of a computer, so I've been opting for spending my time doing things that provide a greater distraction value. Or catching up on sleep, since that's been a bit disturbed by the whole process.

Unfortunately simply having the tooth out isn't an option unless it suffers decay or starts giving considerably more trouble than it does at present, since it's right up against a nerve. If it were to be extracted, there's a high risk of nerve damage, which could lead to me losing sensation in either my lower lip or tongue or both. And that could be either temporary or permanent, so not really something I fancy doing.

It's much improved again now, so I've pretty much downgraded to ibuprofen and ditched the codeine, but I had a visit to the dentist this morning anyway. He's given me some anti-bacterial gel to rub around the area of the tooth after brushing, which will enable me to ditch the horrible Oraldine mouthwash which gives me a numb tongue by way of side-effect, and I'm now on antibiotics for the next few days to trample down the last of the infection.

Naturally these are antibiotics of the do not drink alcohol variety, so I should probably have drunk that bottle of Elderflower wine that's in the fridge last night, since I won't now have an opportunity. Ah well. Maybe I'll hit the bottle on Sunday instead. :-)

And I really need to get around to buying extra supplies of the Elderflower, because I only bought two bottles of it and that's the last of them, though I do still have a Mead and Blackberry untouched as well. I visited the Medieval Bishop's Palace in Lincoln with my parents over Easter, when I was visiting them, and the English Heritage gift shop there had fruit wines on sale. So I grabbed, and stashed a few bottles away in my car to bring back with me, which turned out to be rather nice. Happily, the address of the winery that makes it for English Heritage was on the bottle, so I have investigated and I rather think that I'm going to order half a case of wine from them as soon as I've decided which wine to order.

Right now I'm inclining towards Rose Petal, but I'm intrigued by the idea of the Silver Birch. What on earth would it taste like? Other than, you know, slightly woody. :-)

In other news I am writing fiction again and am making strides towards completing the Great Comics Fandom Story of Doom, which has nagged at me whenever I've had a hankering to write something completely different over the past couple of years. The end is now approaching - hooray! - even though timeouts for toothache have made the chances of my completing it in time for a potential deadline of this Saturday extremely slim. I'm currently at 14 pages and counting, but I think it's going to weigh in at 20+.

Why, oh why can't I write short short stories? ;-)

food and drink, adventures in dentistry, writing... or not
