It's my own fault I suppose.
I plan to ramble on about slash fans and the most recent gigs I've been to under the cut... so feel free to click if MSI or Panic grab your attention, or alternatively, it you find the concept of teenage girls squeaking loudly about Frerard (etc) in the middle of London...
Well, last night I saw Mindless Self Indulgence play at the Camden Roundhouse, but prior to that, I saw Panic play at the AstoriaThen... which was on... Tuesday. Sorry, had to think about that one.
Now, Panic was an interesting state of affairs due to the nature of the people attending. Some were die-hard debut album fans, praying for a bit of 'A Fever...' to be played, dressed in the more traditional Panic garb, some seemed to hardly know why they were there and had been dragged by squawky friends or girlfriends (to my amusement) and the others? Well, they like the new stuff, I suppose, and not much else it seems.
I've liked the boys for a pretty long time, so I was fucking thrilled to be seeing them personally. If I'm honest, I had no love of music for a long time, and then, when I was about... twelve or thirteen? I realised what the hell I was missing. I got into Panic a few days after I heard 'I Write Sins...' on the radio, buying the album pretty quick, so it was love straight off the mark. It was listening to them that got me into Fall Out Boy, and later made me more receptive to MCR, who are now my bloody idols (forgive me, it was never intentional, but I wanna sing as powerfully as Gee and play guitar as good as Frank and Ray. Those men are gods.)
So, it was a bit of a dream come true to be seeing Panic and I did slip into fangirl mode because, well, they're my first musical love and the first band I thought 'god they're gorgeous' about, so can you blame me? Hope not.
I found a very lovely girl called Sadie who completely matched me as I got more and more (quite childishly) hyperactive. We screeched a lot, giggled, discussed who'd bottom in Ryden, etc. We had giggling fits about the kit for the band, partly as I shouted on a whim that one of the huge boxes had all Ryan's scarves in, and we were theorizing that another of the big boxes was full of the bands' tweed jackets and waiscoats. I also managed to get a few giggles when I shouted that the box with the pink duct tape on was definitely Ryan's. There were also loud and daft conversations regarding Gabe Saporta and Will Beckett, Will's hips, whether or not Ryan was in fact or whether he was Jesus' little sister, and of course whether or not kidnapping Ryan would cause Brendon to try and come rescue him....
The feel of the place was awesome, and I started about three off the front in the centre, which didn't last unfortunately, because the crowd was full of girls seemingly determined to either break the barrier, or surge over it so they themselves could mob the band. I went upstairs, fearing for my life, before Panic got on. The balcony at the Astoria though, offers a bloody good view and it's not really that far away, so I was okay, despite being soaked through and bruised. I sang along to every fucking word (which bemused my friends somewhat) and took far too many blurry and strange pictures.
Anyway, afterwards, I got a t-shirt, begged for one of the flowers from Spencer's drum kit, but wasn't allowed one (apparently they're 'set'), got a couple of posters, and chilled out 'til my dad came to get me and my friend. We watched them deal with the kit again, were scared half to death by a drunk bloke looking for his brother and touched one of the guitar cases... a Gibson one. Whose it was I don't know.
One interesting thing about the show, was that they were standing on rugs to play their guitars. I mean... what was with that? It was rather strange and made me smile. Also, a girl saw Ryan and Jon enter the Astoria round the back and had a panic attack. No joke. Hyperventilating, screaming and crying, the whole lot. She and her mate got to go to the meet and greet because of it, Zac let them do it because the girl wouldn't stop crying.
So... Panic was good.
And it turns out I'll have to expand on the MSI gig later or something, as I can't do it right now... I'm being called for, lol. Au revoir mes amis.
