Donghae woke up in the middle of the night, feeling like he has slept for too long. Noticing the darkness around him, he tried to go back to sleep, but couldn’t. He sat up in the bed and smiled. Since Hyukjae’s parents weren’t home this weekend Hyukjae invited him to have some quality time. Glancing around he caught Hyukjae’s half naked body sleeping next to him, their clothes lying all around Hyukjae’s parents’ room. Now that he wasn’t doing anything in particular he could look around the room properly. It looked modern; it was big, grey and had floor-to-ceiling windows. Donghae silently got up, pulled up his boxers (which he found at his feet when he got off the bed) and went to the window. He could see the apartment building on the other side, many rooms still had lights on and he could almost see people inside them. The brunet turned around and looked at his boyfriend - his lips were slightly parted, his red hair covered part of his face and city lights were illuminating his form. Donghae smiled again, he looked really handsome even while sleeping.
Turning his head back at the window again, he thought that if Hyukjae wasn’t his boyfriend he would be jealous of his apartment. But since he visited it so often, it felt like his home too. And it’s not like he’s not happy living in his own small apartment with his mom, he liked it. It was cozy. It was all they could get. Donghae wondered, if his dad was still alive, would they live in a bigger place? If his dad was still alive, would he have met Hyukjae? Various what ifs flooded Donghae’s head and without him even knowing he started to cry.
‘Aish Donghae, such a crybaby,’ he thought to himself, when he realized he has been sniffing and started wiping his face. ‘What if you wake up Hyukjae.’
He silently left the room and went to the bathroom to wash his face. When he came back, he took the first shirt he found on the ground - it was Hyukjae’s he didn’t even have to check - and put it on. He went to the window again, sat on the floor and just spaced out. He didn’t hear Hyukjae’s sheets rustling, didn’t hear the silent shuffling of his feet and only snapped back when he felt arms winding around his neck. Hyukjae put his chin on top of Donghae’s head and Donghae took his hand.
“What are you doing here?” Hyukjae asked.
“Why aren’t you sleeping?” Donghae answered his question with another question.
“Why aren’t YOU sleeping would be a better question. What are you doing?”
“Thinking,” Hyukjae took his arms off Donghae’s neck and sat next to him, still holding his hand.
“About what?”
“You. And other stuff,” Donghae smiled and laid his head on Hyukjae’s shoulder.
They stayed silent for a while, just looking somewhere in front of them, either trying to see what are the people in the other building doing or just lost in their own thoughts.
“It’s beautiful. All those lights that is,” Donghae whispered.
“I know. I knew you would like it, that’s why we’re in this room,” Hyukjae smiled.
“You said it’s because your parents’ bed is bigger!” Donghae suddenly lifted his head and looked at Hyukjae as if what he just said was universe shifting or something.
“Yeah well that too, but who cares now. I don’t have that many big windows in my room,” redhead shrugged. Donghae slapped his hand playfully.
“You’re so cheesy.”
“Oh oh only for you,” Hyukjae slid his arm around Donghae’s waist and kissed his cheek.
Donghae laid his head on Hyukjae’s shoulder again. They became silent for a while again, and it seemed like Donghae is thinking about something.
“You know this would really look like scene from some cheesy romantic movie, we’re already sitting like this, now you would whisper some sweet nothings in my ear and I would giggle like a school girl in love, which I am except I’m not a girl,” Donghae reasoned. Hyukjae bent his head to Donghae’s ear.
“Sweet nothing,” he whispered and Donghae hit him again. “What was that for?”
“Am I supposed to giggle at that? I hate you, really,” he faked anger, stood up and went to bed.
But before he could get away, though, Hyukjae stood up too and caught his wrist. He spun him around, slid an arm around his waist, and his fingertips lightly brushed Donghae’s cheek. They were close, really close and Donghae enjoyed their close proximity a lot. Hyukjae leaned in until their foreheads and noses were touching.
“Yeah, I love you too, really,” he breathed on Donghae’s lips. Donghae grinned.
“Shut up and kiss me already, why else are we standing this close,” Hyukjae smirked at that for a second and then closed the gap between them. Hyukjae led them to the bed and broke the kiss only to push Donghae onto it.
“Go to sleep now,” he said and crawled to his side of the bed. Donghae huffed at that and got under covers. Hyukjae slid his arms around him and Donghae snuggled to his chest.
“Goodnight, monkey.”
“Goodnight, fish.”
