Yuletide Letter 2015

Oct 17, 2015 23:09

Hello, Yuletide writer, and first of all thank you, thank you, thank you for even attempting to write one of my fandoms! I apologize in advance for talking way too much in not-exactly even proportion, because I think this is probably the longest Yuletide letter I've ever written? I try every year to write the same amount about everything I'm requesting and inevitably I fail because somehow some things bring out the wordy more than others. But seriously, I'm thrilled about them all. So thrilled I decided to have a short section on resources to get hold of canon this year!

On DNWs: I decided it was most helpful to provide DNWs on a request-by-request basis, since sometimes a 'yes please' in one fandom is a 'please no' in another and all that. In some cases I've listed elements that are present in canon as a DNW. Generally what this means is I don't want it to play a major part, be detailed, or the focus of the story, not that you need to pretend it doesn't exist/never happened (unless for your own reasons you'd like to).

Also my AO3 name is HannaM just in case you're a lovely person browsing for treats.

The Binding of Isaac - Isaac, Eve
What it is: The Binding of Isaac is an indie game that was later expanded on (Wrath of the Lamb) and revamped (Rebirth plus forthcoming expansion Afterbirth) based loosely on the Biblical parable The Binding of Isaac, other bits of Old and New Testament and the original NES Legend of Zelda. You play as Isaac (or Eve, or one of the other unlockable characters) who has jumped down into the mysterious Basement to escape his murderous mother, who he must eventually confront at the end of the game. There are no save points, so when you die you go back to the beginning, and levels/bosses/items/power-ups are randomly generated so no game is quite the same as the last.
Where to find it: All versions are available to download for PC and Mac on Steam and through the Humble Store. Rebirth is also now available for New Nintendo 3DS, Playstation 4 and Vita.

I requested Isaac and Eve both because I've probably played the most runs with them and because I'm most interested in the potential for stories with them. That said, I don't require both Isaac and Eve to be in the fic if that's not the way it ends up going. I'm equally okay with just Isaac, just Eve or Isaac and Eve. On that note, I'm also open to interpretations regarding just how separate Isaac is (or isn't) from the other playable characters. Eve can be Isaac playing dress-up, or Eve can be her own person who just happens to share a Mom with Isaac, or some murkier middle ground where Eve isn't exactly Isaac but maybe is connected to him somehow/is him in an alternate universe (Ed McMillen did confirm Isaac had some gender issues after all). Or if you're just writing Isaac all of that might be a moot point!

Seeing as the game itself leaves so much unanswered, I'm definitely not looking for some kind of definitive explanation for all the peculiarities of the Basement! I love the atmosphere of this game and how it manages to look and feel so distinctive while being relatively light on story, so honestly I'd be equally okay with something that focuses on the character(s) feelings and headspace or something that's just evocative of the experience of exploring the world of the game. So in that vein... do any of the trinkets and power-ups Isaac and/or Eve pick up change them internally as well as externally? What about the Evil and Faith stats, do they reflect Isaac and/or Eve's inner beliefs, or are they ultimately meaningless? What about Deals with the Devil? What about Angel Rooms? Eve seems to be "cursed" with Whore of Babylon from the beginning, is there a reason for that? What's it like to go to Sheol or the Cathedral after everything, and what's up with Isaac being the boss of the Cathedral?

Binding of Isaac DNWs: sex of any kind, harm to living animals/graphic animal abuse, too much focus on the poop, total misery porn.

Diabolik Lovers - Komori Yui, Sakamaki Kanato
What it is: A Japanese otome game and later a 12 episode anime about an innocent young Catholic girl sent to live with six sadistic vampire brothers for mysterious reasons, and her struggle to survive with her humanity intact. I'm equally interested in fic for the anime or the first game so no need to look for one if you're only familiar with the other unless you want to.
Canon resources: The first anime has been subtitled and is fairly easy to find through various sources. The first game has no official English translation or patch, and is unlikely to ever be officially translated considering all the sexualized violence. Though there's no patch for the game, there are detailed summaries of Kanato's route with CGs and fans have compiled a line-by-line complete text translation as well.

I've requested Kanato and Yui both because they are my favorites and because I ship them like burning, but if you don't ship them I'm still super down for more anime compliant predator/prey stuff and pre-relationship dynamics. I loved that the anime kept one of my favorite Kanato moments, which is when Yui's protesting that being bitten hurts and she doesn't like it, and Kanato actually registers this, then decides to make it feel good for her instead. I really like that even in a universe where she's not his sole possession, that's still something he feels the need to do.

I also like the implications that Yui has some things in common with Kanato (she wants to buy clothes for Teddy too!) especially when they're sort of dark things. Sure, a lot of her weirder sentiments come late in the game when she's been around Kanato a lot, but Yui's not exactly a sponge. I find it hard to believe that the dark stuff wasn't always in her to a degree, just carefully repressed. One thing I find tragic about Kanato's route is that I absolutely believe Yui does fall in love with him, but he can't believe it himself, and his refusal to accept her love on her terms (the more he loves her, the more frightened he is that she'll leave him, and the more he feels the need to control her so that won't happen) ultimately makes things worse for both of them.

Going back to the anime, I'm interested in just what the Sakamakis think they're doing. Is it accepted that Yui is the bride of all of them, or is there a bit of a competition going on for who can really sink their hooks into her? Or can they just not agree and everyone has a different idea about whether this situation can possibly last? Does Yui ever compare her experiences with the brothers in her mind/feel any particular leaning towards some of them being less difficult than others or are they firmly all the same to her? Is there any chance of her managing to change her status or wrest greater control over them?

Should you be interested in writing sex, these two characters have a lot of it and I would certainly not be opposed to them having more of it! Creepy dubcon vanilla sex is great (that basically describes their first time anyway) kinky sex is also great, and basically I'll go into more detail in my Yuleporn comment if this is relevant to your interests.

Diabolik Lovers DNWs: pregnancy or kid!fic, outright graphic non-con, Kanato or Yui dying permanently, totally uncreepy vampire romance, Yui's stuff/room being destroyed to punish her, specifically public humiliation on the street/in front of classmates or humans and I'd rather not have heights brought into it unless everyone involved can fly.

Les Enfants Terribles (1950) - Elisabeth, Paul
What it is: A French film from 1950 about a sister and brother (the titular terrible children) that make a game out of cruelty and are possessive of each other to the point of violence, adapted from the novel by Jean Cocteau and directed by Jean-Pierre Melville.
Canon resources: Available on DVD with subtitles through the Criteron Collection and free to stream for Hulu+ members.

Oh wow, Elisabeth and Paul. Terrible people being terrible to each other is already a huge weakness of mine and when you add in siblings who are claustraphobic levels of close and the sister takes over everything while the brother is supposed to be healing WELL. Very relevant to my interests, to put it mildly! So I'll admit I'm requesting this movie and these characters very much with incest in mind. I just find it hard to believe they wouldn't have gone there at least once, particularly with the sleeping together and bathing together and super intense jealousy. At the very least there's incestuous tension! I'd be fine with everything from Paul and Elisabeth just being really intense with each other in a way that leaves it ambiguous/subtextual whether incest is a factor to something more character driven that just alluded to sex/faded to black to outright porn, basically whatever you're comfortable with and feels right to you.

The movie begins with Paul getting injured by his fellow schoolboy and crush, Dargoles, and being prescribed bed rest under the care of his sister. How differently might things have gone if Paul wasn't injured and he had to work along with/instead of Elisabeth? What are some other games Paul and Elisabeth played? Did they ever play at being married, or being master and slave? How did Paul feel about Elisabeth's marriage? We more or less know how Elisabeth reacted to Paul's feelings for Agathe, but if I recall correctly it's a bit less clear what she thought of Paul's infatuation with Dargoles. What was it like before Paul was hit by the snowball? How did the game start?

Les Enfants Terribles DNWs: outright rape (rape roleplay is okay), sex stuff under age 15, Agathe as a major target for cruelty, fluffiness.

Kid Icarus: Uprising - Pit, Palutena
What it is: Nintendo 3DS game, distant sequel to the Kid Icarus games for NES, very loosely based on Greek Mythology. You play as Pit, angel/icarus and right hand man to the goddess of light, Palutena. The game has shooting and melee combat sections, and the characters carry on long loud conversations virtually constantly. Also the first game I've played to feature a plot-relevent selection menu change that got me all emotional.
Where to find it: In cartridge form for a 3DS? Or you could watch an LP, though I've no idea who's done one.

I love lady/knight relationships, so basically this game was catnip to me, ESPECIALLY when it started being hinted that Palutena wasn't exactly the perfectly good righteous goddess Pit believed her to be. So while I'd love some goofy good times up in Skyworld, I'd be just as delighted with an exploration of Pit's intense loyalty to his Lady. Actually, there's a wide enough range of stuff I'm interested in, I might as well divvy it up by tone.

Lighter prompts: Presumably Pit and Palutena actually do sit down and play video games together considering some of their references... is their style to try and cooperate with each other in games like Donkey Kong Country or compete intensely over the likes of Excitebike and Mario Party? Or since there's already some comments from the characters on game mechanics, what does Palutena think of things like Pit looking for the Zodiac Chambers or saving/spending hearts on new weapons or giving them to her? (I... might have not donated any hearts to Viridi just in case it made Palutena jealous) I... would not be adverse to super goofy smut full of jokes and/or awkwardness.

Less light prompts: A quiet moment of Palutena tending to some of the injuries Pit's sustained fighting for her? It's heavily hinted that Pit is pretty unusual for an angel... is there a reason for that, or is it as mysterious to Palutena as it is to everyone else? I do ship it, but in a way where I'd be completely there for Pit never even daring to let himself think of the possibility that the great Lady Palutena could possibly consider thinking of him that way. Or anything that left in the power differential as an issue. I... would not be adverse to smut that played up the lady/knight relationship and Pit's eagerness to please.

Darker prompts: How deep does Pit's loyalty run? What would he be willing to do for Palutena's sake? How much of a beating is Palutena willing to let her general take before recalling him to Skyworld? On the flip side, would Palutena be willing to go to extremes to save Pit? What might a Dark Palutena look like? (Assuming the Chaos Kin doesn't quite count)

Kid Icarus DNWs: non-con/dub-con, graphic violence, animal harm, body horror, sexual/romantic stuff when Pit was an actual child in the NES games.

女王蜂の王房  | Jooubachi no Oubou - Kaguya, Rin
What it is: Jooubachi no Oubou~ Menou-hen and Jooubachi no Oubou~ Kaguya-hen (roughly translated 'Queen Bee's Chambers~ Era of Menou/Era of Kaguya) are two companion R-18 otome games released in Japanese for PC by Pure Wool, based off the R-18 CD series Jooubachi no Kanbinaru Kougou, also by Pure Wool. This request focuses on Kaguya-hen.
Where to find it: There's no official English translation and as far as I know, no fan translated English patch for the complete game. However, there's a few in-progress screenshot LPs of Kaguya-hen and some of the more flagrantly NSFW CGs are freely (official site btw) viewable in certain *ahem* places. This is an incredibly violent explicit porn game, so use your own discretion in following these links.

So I somehow got sincerely emotionally invested in humanoid bee woobies who live in a world that is dystopia levels of fucked up, with a matriarchical society that practices polyandry (read: each princess has a drone harem) as an excuse for constantly kinky sex. Humanoid bee woobies that are fundamentally kind and generous but filled with self-loathing and too screwed up by their past and present fucked up situation to not do terrible things to the ones they love! And I mean terrible, terrible destructive things.

I mean, Rin VOLUNTEERED to get his eye gouged out without any kind of painkillers by Kaguya, the princess he's loved since childhood because he was convinced that he was worthless to her and that by undergoing this INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS operation that almost no one survives he might gain enough power to be her weapon. And then it turns out a) she botched the operation accidentally because she's NOT A SURGEON so now he can't see in that eye b) his new eye is powered by his agony and so it will never stop hurting and will probably kill him within three months.

Also he's the shota character and his backstory is that he's secret bee royalty but when his mother was tortured and killed by the current queen for being competition (his father got killed too) Rin's status was demoted all the way to "lower class drone" (read: straight up slave) who was never allowed clothes and served an abusive female bee who whipped and beat him and I am pretty sure raped him repeatedly as well. I say "pretty sure" because no one in bee society seems to get the concept of rape, though there are a lot of people having surprise sex they didn't know they wanted. He loves Princess Kaguya because she was literally the only person who was nice to him. Naturally Kaguya was sheltered enough back then to have no idea what was up with him and often wondered why he never wore clothes, but she liked his smile and thought he was sweet.

For her part, Kaguya got to be a sheltered pampered little bee princess up until her sister's guardian drone threw her off the edge of their floating bee city in the sky (just go with it) and she landed down in the human world, where she got captured by a human cult of bee worshipers (JUST GO WITH IT) then got free only to be captured AGAIN this time by creepy drones that used her as a sex slave then got free from THAT only to fall into the clutches of Lord High Creepmaster Sumeragi (not his actual title) who put her through a frankly bizarre experiment involving cloning her repeatedly and trying to seduce each clone (who had different memories) in turn. The experiment was a failure because every single time no matter how close he got to a version of Kaguya she would always reject him and he would always murder her. And real!Kaguya, now she's awake again as an adult, has all the clone memories, SO YEAH. Did I mention all of this is her backstory and the game only starts with the last clone and Kaguya's re-awakening as herself? YEAH.

So in order to get back home to Floating Hive City In The Sky, Kaguya has to cooperate with Sumeragi despite her justifiable loathing for him, and the fact that her only real motivation now is REVENGE. She keeps sassing him and telling him he's trash the whole way there even as he keeps doing terrible creepy shit to her because she is a woobie of steel. Also I feel I should mention she eats humans. Because that's a thing.

REQUESTS: So one of the things I find really interesting about Kaguya and Rin's dynamic and would always be delighted to see more of is the degree to which they see themselves in each other, and where that empathy is helpful versus where it interferes with their understanding of the other as a separate individual person. Kaguya clearly sees her own precious childhood in Rin's "innocence" and is very protective of him because she couldn't protect herself, but Rin seems to identify more strongly with Kaguya's fierce desire for survival and revenge, and the more she tries to wrap him up in blankets and take care of him the more frustrated he feels and the more desperate his desire gets to prove he's not a pet. I'd also be specifically interested in more of the aftermath of the scene where Sumeragi goads Rin into sexually assaulting Kaguya with him. There's a whole lot of horrifying and sad implications in Rin's confusion over the idea that Kaguya's body responding didn't mean she wanted that, especially given the way he flees when Kaguya bitterly decides to force him too. And then there's the whole setup with the magical eye to play with, because I'm hardly going to rule out porn and violent stuff from a canon where that's so integral. Just... with the below reservations.

Jooubachi no Oubou DNWs: Piercing/needles focus, vore, violent stuff involving eyes and fingers, pregnancy, extreme underage/ageplay, Sumeragi.

fandom: queen bee series, fandom: diabolik lovers, fandom: binding of isaac, fandom: les enfants terribles, letters
