Nervous Anticipation

Mariveaux's hands twist nervously as she stands before Christi Stockton, nodding at the selection of casks before her.  "Yes, at least several casks of each, both the White and the Red.  Oh, and can you have Fialla arrange for some Eversong Wine as well?"

The human nods in acknowledgment and smiles before peering at the young blood elf.  "Of course, Mari.  Don't worry about a thing."  She pauses before speaking again.  "But it does you no good to say such at thing, especially at a time like this.  I can see that something is on your mind.  Is there anything wrong?"

Mariveaux blinks big fel-green orbs before her eyes widen, "Wrong?  Oh, no!  No, of course not.  I mean... why would you ask such a thing?"  Her bottom lip begins to tremble and she quickly bites it to stop the shaking.

"Mariveaux Shadowraven, are you getting cold feet?"  The wine vendor asks politely, her voice lowering.

"What?!"  The warlock's reply is practically a shriek.  "No, no, no!  No, not at all.  It's just that... I mean... I am ..." She stumbles over what to say and the human smiles graciously, patiently waiting for Mari to compose her thoughts.

"I am afraid."  She finally whispers, her eyes dropping to study the tips of her boots as if they are the most interesting shoes in the world.

"Mari, poor little Mari.  You think he will get cold feet?"

Mariveaux Shadowraven shrugs in reply but then shakes her head.  "No.  I don't think that at all.  I know he is sincere in his wish to marry me.  He lets me know each day that I see him that he loves me with a true heart.  I cannot help but believe him.  It's just that... just ... well, you see... I feel that I am cursed."

"Cursed?  Whatever made you think such a thing?  Have you crossed a Witch Doctor?"

"Oh, no!  No, nothing like that.  It's just something my sister teases me about.  I know she's not serious."  Her brows furrow a little, causing a small crease between them.  "At least, I don't think that she is serious.  But...well... you see... this isn't the first time I've been engaged."

"Aye, I think I see what you mean now.  You've had the rings but no husbands.  But it's different now, isn't it?  You aren't rushing into anything, are you?"

"Rushing?  What do you...oh!  Oh, no.  We've known each other a very long time and our courtship has lasted well over a year."

"Not knocked up, are you?"

"I beg your pardon?  Knocked up?"

"You know.  Pregnant."  Christi makes a gesture, indicating a big belly across the front of her stomach.

Mari shakes her head swiftly and emphatically, blushing a very deep shade of crimson as she swallows hard, gulping.  "No, no, no!  Not pregnant!"

Seeing the girl's embarrassment, Christi lets out a hardy chuckle, smiling to set her at ease.  "That's a good girl, Mari.  You're right to wait...not that there's anything wrong with a roll in the hay before you say 'I do.'"  She gives the young woman a sly wink.

Mariveaux flushes further and she wrings her hands even more anxiously.  The shopkeeper takes pity on her and reaches out to pat her on the arm.  "Don't you worry your pretty little head, Mariveaux.  I'm sure he will be there, at the altar.  Don't you go doubting yourself about that.  He loves you, right?"

She nods quickly and smiles a little weakly.

"And you love him, yes?"

"Oh, very much so!  I do!"  Her smile widens with conviction.

The woman chuckles again.  "Then be sure to say just that on your wedding day and everything will work out as it should."

Mariveaux inhales and then gives the wine vendor a look of determination before she releases her breath in a long drawn-out sigh.  "You're absolutely right. He will be there.  We will be married.  And by this time next week, I will be Missus Telarin Sarethi."

"I'm sure you will be, Mari.  Why don't you go find your young man?  I'm sure he would be happy to set your mind at ease.  Maybe a kiss or two from your beau will do the trick."  She laughs when she sees the blush blossom across Mari's cheeks again and scoots her towards the door.  "Go on with you now.  Find your Telarin and tell him how you feel."
