Yet another reason to dislike Chris Christie There are at least a couple of things wrong with what he said here. For starters, the idea that he'll be able to say goodbye to the rights of the accused if he gets sent to Trenton is laughable. Those laws that guarantee "innocent until proven guilty," the laws that he obviously views with disdain, are Constitutional and not within the power of any politician to erase. You would think that a former US Attorney would know better than to think that Constitutional rights are intolerable hindrances that need to be eliminated, but considering the other US Attorneys that were hand-picked by Karl Rove and Dick Cheney I shouldn't be surprised. Just because your bosses in the party want you to create more charges against Democrats doesn't mean that you can ignore the law in the pursuit of partisan revenge.
The other thing that I find wrong with what he said is his extremely unsubtle insinuation that AUSAs who helped him to get elected would find themselves with lucrative new jobs in his administration. In a state known for corruption and a party based upon patronage I guess I shouldn't be surprised at these comments, and yet it makes me sick to think that this man could be our next governor. Considering that the US Attorney's Office would be front and center in any investigation of wrongdoing in either campaign, giving the investigators in that office a clear motive to swing things in your favor is or at least should be illegal. Considering
the fact that he made a loan to a powerful official in the US Attorney's Office and can now hold that over her head should she be in a position to help or harm his political chances, this is more than a little disturbing and should be cause for concern to those who seek fairness in electoral politics.
Everything that I have seen points to the fact that Chris Christie is nothing more than a partisan hack chosen by the Republican party bosses and answerable only to them. Every time he opens his mouth he says something that betrays his disregard for law and impartiality, and every hidden fact that comes out about him makes him look worse and worse. It is disheartening to see that he's still in the lead for the election, I can only hope that as the election nears and more horrid details come out about his time as a Republican operative the tide will turn and people will start realizing what a bad idea it would be to elect him.
