I thought that they were trying to come up with reasons why we shouldn't vote for Obama

Seriously, perhaps socialism is just what we need right now. We've seen for the past eight years (and really for almost the past 30, since Reagan and "trickle down" economics) what the other extreme leads to, perhaps we need to try this one out for a while. I mean, it's not like the Republicans don't continue to spend, they just spend on the wrong things (handouts to corporations, weapons and warfare related items, etc.) and then cut taxes to the rich which leads to a bottom-heavy tax burden and reduced revenue. What happens when you have reduced revenue and increased spending? The answer, of course, is the skyrocketing national debt that we're currently faced with. We could probably afford universal healthcare plus a decent education system and job growth programs just on what we'll spend over the next few years in Iraq, so if Obama manages to get us out of that mess we may just be able to really start bringing back the American Dream for most Americans without that severe a tax increase just by shifting our priorities back to sanity.

The McCain campaign has really shifted into a very bad place over the past few weeks, and considering that they were already in a pretty bad and negative place I think that says a lot. From the current socialism stuff back to Ayers and "Joe the Plumber" (who's not a plumber at all, but rather an unlicensed contractor who steals jobs from real plumbers) and even the "Obama's a Muslim" garbage that never really gets refuted by the McCain camp, it's become the sole focus of their campaign to whisper horrible lies about Obama and then pretend that they had nothing to do with it as those lies gain traction within the electorate. Luckily for truth and justice, it seems like people are realizing who McCain really is and his lies don't seem to be getting through any more. There were a lot of people who seemed to listen to the Obama=Muslim stuff a few months ago, but barely anybody took him seriously with the Ayers "controversy" and I doubt that they'll listen with the socialism idiocy either. People are interested in hearing what the candidates will do for them, how they'll work to solve the economic crisis or end global warming or bring our troops home from Iraq, and they're not going to allow this campaign to be all about lies and misdirection.
