[recipes][work][health] good god, work has returned to normal

May 17, 2010 23:22

Like the title says, I've returned to work like normal. Which is weird since this week is a half week only. It's already midterms. *SCREAMS* I'm so screwed. orz Hopefully I'll be able to finish out my plans for the semester though and then I can begin working on the next semester and keep enjoying the time I have with the current boyfriend until he leaves at the end of September. I know I shouldn't date ANOTHER guy who is just going to leave, but hnnnngh I'm a retard.

BUT the real reason for this post is because lokogato asked for a recipe! This time it's for Garlic Chicken Steak with potatoes and peppers. I accidentally put too much garlic and not enough soy sauce in the sauce so it doesn't quite look right, but it tasted fine!

Garlic Chicken Steak (for 2 people)
Ingredients
Boneless chicken leg meat2 pieces (approx. 500g)
Potatoes2 (medium to small)
Peppers2
Sliced garlicapprox. 3 cloves worth
Sauce ingredients
    Grated garlic (fresh) 1/2 clove
    Soy sauce1 tablespoon
Salad oil, salt, pepper, butterAs needed
Instructions:
(1) Quarter the potatoes and soak them in water for 5 minutes, then boil them and then set aside. Quarter the peppers and trim the fat off the chicken. Cut shallow slits in the skin and in the meat parts to allow more thorough cooking. I usually season the chicken with Lawry's Season-All, but you can do whatever you like at this point.

(2)In a fry pan, heat 2 tablespoons of salad oil and put in the garlic slices. When they start to pop, put to low heat and fry the garlic until it browns slightly. Remove and set aside to drain the oil.

(3)In the same pan, put the chicken in skin side down. Salt and pepper the chicken, then cover with a lid. (If you seasoned the chicken earlier, you don't need to do it here.) Cook on high heat until it browns, then turn over, leave the cover off and cook again. If you're worried about the chicken cooking all the way through, you can (and this is what we did) put in a bit of water and recover it so the chicken steams to finish.

(4)Put the peppers in any open spaces in the frypan and cook at medium heat. Remove once browned and finish cooking the chicken.

(5)Cut the chicken into slices and top with butter, the sauce and the fried garlic slices. Put on a plate with a side of potatoes and the peppers!

Notes: I got this recipe out of a food magazine here while I was at the doctor's office. Amazing what you can find, huh? Also, you can do any vegetable you want, really, if you don't like peppers or potatoes. I think asparagus would go really well with this and since I can't eat peppers, I might do that next time. One thing to be careful of is that the dish is really garlicky, so if you don't like garlic so much, you might want to avoid. I usually have this with a side salad and it's a pretty filling meal! Enjoy guys♥

Also, because thebigkaboosh said she had nachos today on Plurk, I went and got the ingredients and made my own nachos. 8( So expensive, but I think they were worth it. What do you guys think?
