I received my breakdown of exam marks today, and it left me extremely confused.
*Why did I get a First on one set texts paper and a 2:ii on the other one, when I knew all the texts by heart and felt that they had both gone equally well?
*Why is my mark in Japanese History so low?
*Why is Linguistics one of my highest marks?
The Oral and Modern Japanese marks were pretty much as bad as I expected, but I did get an excellent mark in Classical. And I have a slight suspicion that my low mark on the second Texts paper may be due to Dr Morris being a bastard.
Oh, and I found this on the University website: 'In some ways the Tripos system is a good compromise between the continuous assessment favoured by some universities and the emphasis placed on final exams by others. Each Part of the Tripos is self-contained with a separate result at the end of each year. There is no averaging out for your final degree.'
This indicates that Rosie's brother is quite right, and that as long as I manage to pass Part II, I'm allowed to quote my Part I result on CVs and things. So, whatever happens in the final exams, I can still legitimately say that I got a 2:i from Cambridge.
