Today has been a lovely day. After a lazy morning, I popped down to college on my bike and queued for tickets to the Jesus May Ball with Joe (which didn't take very long). Then we sat on Latham Lawn for a bit before I went off for lunch with the Japanologists. As well as our four, four first-years (including Colin, who used to be in our year before he degraded) turned up, and Yosuke, a Japanese guy Ruairidh and Dasha know, and Ruairidh's girlfriend, who is foul but reasonably easy to ignore. She's one of those sweet, flirty, simpering types who spent all lunchtime playing with her hair and looking adoringly at Ruairidh. Mind you, I suppose I could have guessed that she would be like that from the way he talks about women! Yosuke recommended us all good places to visit, in Tokyo and Japan in general, and we chatted with the first-years and shared our plans for the year ahead. And we gave Dasha a goodbye card, because she's leaving Japanese now and changing to SPS. Then we parted, with hugs and promises of 'see you in Tokyo!' between myself, Simon and Ruairidh, and I made my way back to college. Joe was in the JCR watching football (*rolls eyes*), but when I showed up he came and bought ice-cream with me, which made me happy. So we sat on Latham Lawn eating ice-cream, which is a glorious way to spend an afternoon, and then when I checked my pigeonhole my new hat had arrived! It's a wonderful hat. I bought it on eBay the other day from some woman who crochets them, and I like it so much I shall probably never take it off. It's fantastic.
Joe and I parted ways to go back up the hill (he takes the scary way with the traffic lights, whereas I take the less threatening but slightly longer way), and I got the better end of the deal because I bumped into Rosie and Robert on the way! I've mentioned Robert, I'm sure - he's Rosie's boyfriend from the Dominican Republic. The one I've never met and she hasn't seen since last August. There was much girly squealing from both me and Rosie when we saw each other, but I shall try and be calmer and more restrained next time I see him! It was just so great to see them together, though. She talks about him all the time and they're clearly crazy about each other, and it doesn't seem fair that they should have to spend so much time so far away from one another.
Actually, we're having hundreds of guests in BoHo this week. Nadia's brother and his girlfriend, Catherine's friend Ian from Durham, Robert, Joe's brother Sam, Stephen's dreadlock-sporting German brother...I don't know how there's going to be room for us all!
Oooh, and another good thing just happened. I won the bikini I was bidding for (one with shorts for bottoms instead of those daft knickery things which you have to adjust every time you come out of the water or make any sudden movements) on eBay. I haven't actually turned into an eBay fiend, I just wanted this bikini and then...then I saw the hat and I had to succumb. No more eBay after this, I promise.
Oh gods, it's hot in this room. I'm moving over to the other side of the building again. I can't believe nobody thought to put down on the feedback forms how hellish it is here on summer afternoons.
