I'm trying to assemble some "Americanized Bento" pics for my cousin and other friends who ask "what do I put in a bento? The answer of course is "anything you can make fit".
This is an open-face peanut butter and honey sandwich on homemade bread, cut to fit the box, with a layer of thinly-sliced nectarines between the two sticky layers. More nectarine slices in the cup by the sandwich, a couple cherry tomatoes from the garden, and a piece of chocolate n'fruit candy. In the tier to the right are veggies galore - broccoli, carrots, and sugar snap peas, calamata olives, a babybel cheese, and two more bits of candy. A little container of blue cheese dressing is for the veggies.
And for breakfast we have a bento done up with Oat-o's cereal in one tier, with cherry tomatoes for a garnish just for grins, and sliced strawberries covered with plain yogurt, a raspberry, and a swirl of honey in the upper tier. I'm one of those people who can't eat much when I initially get up, but an hour later I'm starving, so I just pack a decent breakfast to work along with a lunch. Click for the pic ->
I'm not a total vegetarian yet, but lately my bentos have been turning out that way. I'm sure the cows don't mind. :)
