I didn't sign up for this.

They told me she was a small dog, that I would only need to take her out for a few short walks a day, maybe only 5-10 minutes, since she didn't seem so active. Earlier today I was corrected, and was informed that since she was a small dog, and had a correspondingly small bladder, it should be more 5-6 times a day so that she can relieve herself.

To her credit, she seems housebroken enough that she hasn't had any "accidents." On the other hand, she's only been in my custody for 7 hours and already I've had to take her out 4 times, each time for close to 20 minutes. She seems to want to go everywhere, is curious about everything. I'm just discovering which areas close to my place have broken glass, and which don't.

It's more work than I expected. She sort of struck me at first as a laid back type of dog, one that would suit my lazy tendencies well. I don't know if the extra high-maintenance she's requiring is from just getting acclimated to her new home or not, but it's much more than the initial impression was.

On the other hand, when she jumps up and down excitedly expecting to go outside when I jingle her leash, or when we get back from our overly-long walks and she bounds up the stairs and knows which door we're going in, it tickles me in a weird way I can't quite describe.

Plus, I'm getting in some great cardio.
