Whole buncha gigs (4 in the last 7 days)
- Saturday (5/20/06): Captured by Robots! w/ Droids Attack and Helliphant. Fucking great. Helliphant sounds better (keyboards come through), and Rabbi J-Botstein performs a couple of weddings. Much 80s covers are played, and my ass is properly laughed off.
- Wednesday (5/23/06): Hungry Lucy + Sensuous Enemy. Somehow I enjoy Sensuous Enemy more and more each time I see them. Lively show, and Jai(?) has a fantastic voice. Hungry Lucy on the other hand... well performed, good live show, excellent vocals, and music that is just too downbeat for me to enjoy (I even own one of their albums). Just not my thing.
- Thursday (5/24/06): Awesome Car Funmaker (rare acoustic set) w/ Public Drunkards Comedy Troupe. The Public Drunkards were somewhat funny (hilarious Mario sketch, and the line about the Jew made me choke on my beer). ACF was interesting in an acoustic way.
- Friday (5/25/06): Cealed Kasket, Droids Attack, Awesome Car Funmaker, Helliphant (missed Ennui + others). I guess I'm burned out on Droids Attack now. I've seen 'em at least 6 times in the last year, and I get less enthuastic every time. Ugh. And Cealed Kasket was fantastic. English Rockers (hailing from Chicago) with a hardcore medieval theme (the wizard guitarist, inbetween spells). These guys probably have one of the best stage shows that I've ever seen in a small band (and for the 20 people in the audience, wow).
Additionally, Sunday may end up being Skintones, Screaming Cyn Cyn + the Pons, and Moi? at the King Club.
I also wanted to leave a quick plug for the Hellacopters, whose album (Rock and Roll is Dead) I have listened to continuously for the past 6 weeks. For a good intro, their site has a
pair of the videos for download. Their juvenile lyrics also embody some sort of punk spirit, without the Blink-182 retardation. Woohoo.
