1) Weirdness: I found a person online who has my same name...she even has a website..."Who is Katie Jones?" Apparently, she is British and creates web communities. For some reason I find this very strange. I've encountered people named Katie before, but not with both names and an advertisement. It's weird to think that I could be a very different Katie Jones if I had made just a couple of choices differently. :)
2) City Life: I'm getting to like the city and finding people to hang out with, which is awesome. The train has bested me a couple of times, but I'm getting there. :)
3) Improv: My IO improv class starts on October 10th, and, hopefully, it will rock my face off. Plus, Bryan and I saw Whirled News Tonight and they were really cool. I can't wait for MTS to come for spring break!
4) The Job: For my theatre, The Northlight, I am directing a showcase for their Open Door Ensemble, a group of senior citizens who take acting and playwrighting classes, and then present their plays in a public showcase at the theatre. I have to read all of their plays (15) and choose 4 or 5 to be in the show. The performance is November 14 and and I think it's going to be really cool. Plus, I'm excited about getting paid decently to direct something. :)
5) Bought and Sold News: For those of you who are/were in BOUGHT AND SOLD, I found out that the official dates of the Capital Fringe Festival are July 20-30, 2006. When I figure out how to do this, I am going to make an LJ group for B&S and invite you guys so we can talk about what we might want to do. I have also thought about looking into festivals here in Chicago. :) Excitement!!
6) Shows: I saw two shows this weekend that were pretty cool. One called MAUI at Donny's Skybox (which is Second City's studio theatre). It was really crazy, but some of the sketches were hold your stomach crying kind of funny. Some were unintelligble, but that's okay. :) I went out with the cast and crew afterwards and their music director was really cool. He played piano, guitar, drums and ukelele for the show, and the music really added a lot to the whole thing. I also found out that groups who apply can rent out the theatre which I thought was interesting...very interesting. :) I also saw a show called THE TOP TEN PEOPLE OF THE MILLENIUM SING THEIR FAVORITE SCHUBERT LIEDER which was not nearly as pretentious as it sounds and rocked my face off. It came from NY and the characters were people like Einstein, Karl Marx, Galileo and Copernicus. It, very subtly, asked the following questions: Which is more important, the humanities or science? And why does the world remember certain people and not others? It was brilliantly acted and presented all of these historical characters as real flesh and blood people, rather than as we remember them from world history class. It was also really creatively done b/c it mixed the ancient and the modern and it had funny moments and poignant moments...let's just say I liked it. And the best part about all of this is that each show only cost $5.00!!
7) Trips: I really miss everyone in Clemson but that's okay because I am coming home on October 6th! Which is less than 2 weeks. :)
