good for you for starting up again! It really is one of the best thing's I've done, both for my health and self-esteem. That feeling of accomplishment after you finish is pretty kick ass.
As for secret tips - Shoes! make sure you get a half-size bigger than normal b/c by the end, your feet are so swollen even getting a show that's too big off your foot is a challenge. If you can, pay the full money for a snazzy brand (Nike, Asic, Mizzuno) and get fitted at an actual running/workout store. I was having lots of blister problems at first but the new shoes really helped.
I also subscribed to the "Kung Fu Panda" way of training - motiviation by food :) Plan to go and have coffee (at least) afterwards with friends after you do your training every week. We did our long workouts on Sunday mornings (early) and then would grab coffee or breakfast after we were done. An Egg McMuffin makes a fine training tool when you're on mile 7 and starving and just want to get done lol.
Friends are also a great motivation - I never would have finished without mine kicking my ass the whole time and keeping me going. So, working out with others at least once a week would be great.
