I turned 21 on the 19th; the days surrounding my birthday have been very pleasant.
On the 18th, Rob gave me a violin and a lottery ticket which turned out to be a $20 winner. Tiffany gave me a gargantuan bag of candy for the road.
On the 19th I worked with Tiffany and Anna, which was fun (Anna bought us bagels from the Great Canadian Bagel), and I sold one of my purses. After work, Rob drove me to the airport; I was early, so there wasn't a single person in line at the baggage check, and there were only two people ahead of me at security. I found a nickel in my backpack, which left me with exactly enough change for the vending machine. The flight was uneventful, and I even managed to sleep for a bit.
The next morning I got to celebrate my birthday with my family; Arden gave me an adorable hand-drawn card and a pair of earrings, and my parents gave me a frame with this photo (from October, 1990) in it:
They're buying me a guitar, but I won't be getting it until I'm back in Halifax. In the afternoon, my mom and I went to Goodwill; they happened to be having a storewide 50% off sale, so I got a couple of sweaters, a few skirts, and some purse fabric. My mom made me a carrot birthday cake, full of raisins and walnuts.
Yesterday my mom and I went for a run down to the river/blockhouse island, which was really, really nice... I'm not a huge fan of this place, but the waterfront is gorgeous. Later, we went to Ottawa for a family get-together, where my Grandma gave me my birthday card and told me she's ordered a Denby teapot (to match my other stoneware I got in England) for me to pick up in Halifax.
This morning, my mom and I went to the Maycourt Club, where I got a few pairs of shorts. This afternoon my Dad and I went to the music shop to look at guitars. After that, I lay around in the hammock for a while (surrounded by wasps but never stung). The weather has been gorgeous the entire time I've been here, and the big apple tree in our back yard is in full bloom.
Also, I've been kicking ass at Monopoly.
