Thinking about it now, he probably should have expected it. Largo practically spelled everything out for him, and yet here he was, fumbling with his words and screwing up at the most important part.
“You’re my… you’re my precious friend.”
What a lie.
It shouldn’t be so hard, really, to say the truth. Lying has never come easy to him, even now, and saying what he actually wants to was as easy as breathing. But the right words get caught in his throat, trapped, and he just doesn’t know what to do anymore.
And as he walks away, lets the distance between them spread, he pretends that everything is fine, that this is how it’s supposed to be.
(It doesn’t work.)
