They let go of each other’s hands, hesitant and slow like they don’t trust the fact that their journey really might be over. Nothing happens, no violent coughing and seizures racking her body, so she must be fine.
She must be cured.
Elraine stares at her hands, solid and stable, and laughs weakly. Despite her hope, despite the adventure, she never really thought this day would come - it’s like a dream.
“It’s… over, isn’t it Kiri-san?”
Her hand is then seized once again, their palms sharing warmth as he stares straight ahead, his face turning redder and redder.
“… it’s not over yet,” he says, raising their hands together in front of her, “it’s not over until I let go, right? S-So today, tomorrow, even after then - I’m not letting go, okay?”
Her cheeks are flushed by the time he stops talking, and she laughs right there, loud and happy, because this has to be the strangest confession she’s ever heard.
“Yeah,” she says, still giggling as she tightens her grip on his hand, “it’s not over till then.”
