The hubs and I are being thoroughly tortured by . . . you'll never guess . . . baby bedding.
Seriously, there are so many choices out there and so many factors to consider (furniture color, floor color, whether the theme is flexible enough to accomodate all kinds of toys -- from cars and trucks to stuffed pandas and whatnot, whether we'll get sick of the room before it's time to redecorate, etc. etc.), ...perhaps we're thinking about it too much. *sigh* But none of the sets is a clear winner. We've narrowed it down to 4, and this is impressive considering there are hundreds out there and my (surprisingly) opinionated husband has nixed at least 2 dozen that I had picked out as contenders. We're down to 4 survivors -- please help!
Oh, and before you start, just wanted to note that I'll be asking you to pick: (1) which ones you like; (2) your most favorite; and (3) your least favorite. You can choose more than one for question #1!
Some things to keep in mind -- the baby's room is pretty small, there is 1 little window, dark hardwood floors, and the furniture is basically this set here, but with a soft curved top on the crib instead of flat.
The first bedding contender is Sahara by Cocalo. Click
here for more details (bigger pictures, etc.) on the set. We would probably do the walls in a light green to lighten things up and try to add some color to the overwhelming brown-ness off it all. We love the cute little animals, especially the zebra and giraffe. The curtains look a bit iffy, but the quality of design and fabrics for everything else looks pretty good. The good thing and the bad thing about this theme is that it blends really well with the rest of our house. We have a lot of African art (hubs was there for 9 months at one point), a lot of dark woods, etc. So it would go really well, but we're thinking maybe we should do something different for the piggy dumpling. I don't know if I'm making any sense. I do imagine this room to be very relaxing and calming for the baby, but then I worry about the theme being so strong that little cars and trucks and non-African stuffed animals would look out of place in the room. Am I being crazy? It's baby brain I tell you.
The second bedding contender vying for your votes is Toy Collection by Sumersault. Apparently this is a super-high quality line with great fabrics and worksmanship. Click
here for close-ups and more details. The number one thing we like about this set is the color scheme -- the palette is fresh and fun, and we can totally picture a really bright and happy nursery with this set. Things I don't like about the set -- the strange decapitated heads on the mobile (definitely won't be getting that) and the focus on cars and trains (although this isn't too bad). Oh, I also don't like that strange cat/bear creature -- you can see it in the middle picture on the wall. I don't think it is used much though. What we do like about the set is that the theme seems very flexible. You can pile all manner of toys in the room and it would look fine. We kind of with we could see the entire quilt, but I love the giraffe, and there appears to be an airplane or something (too bad there's not more of either in the rest of the accessories). If we went with this set, we'd probably go with light green walls (maybe the color of the fitted sheet) and maybe a blue ceiling. The hubs apparently made a promise to himself that his son would not be forced to live in a blue room because he is a boy. We would definitely nix the wall border because it would be too busy in such a small room (and the decapitated heads mobile and that diaper stacker too).
Bedding contender #3 is Cape Cod by Kidsline. More details and pics can be found
here. We were able to see this set in person and it is a lot cuter and more baby-esque than we expected (which was one of our concerns). I like just about everything in this set, including the hilarious little chair, and there are even more coordinating accessories available from other sites (I am a sucker for coordinating items). Things we like: (1) clean and simple lines; (2) nice, non-typical colors; (3) "strong" theme for a boy yet still cute and babyesque; and (4) the dumpling will be spending pretty much every Christmas and parts of every summer in Cape Cod -- like his daddy -- so the theme is pretty darn appropriate. Things we don't like -- mainly that the theme may be too limited. Is it too strong of a theme? Can you add random toys and whatnot to the room and have it still look normal? The theme definitely isn't as cutesy as the others as it doesn't have any little adorable animals running around, but you have ot admit it's pretty charming. I like to imagine the dumpling in a little sailor suit sitting on the chair -- makes me titter every time. If we go with this theme, I think we may go with sand-colored walls like the photo here. We probably wouldn't get the chair (even though it is pretty cute), but there are other coordinated accessories (lamp, throw pillow, fleece blanket, etc.) that we'd probably go for.
And, last but not least, bedding contender #4 is Spot the Dog by Freckles. Please do not be afraid of the crazy business of the picture. We would not get everything. You will have to click
here to get to a bigger picture to see more details. Yes, I know there is an insane poodle running around, but we would minimalize it. I swear. Anyway, I like the crazy puppies (except for the insane poodle), and I like the strong color theme, but I hate how busy this picture is. If we go with this theme, I would take only the bumper (so cute!), the decorative pillow with the kites (the other one is hideous), the quilt (really cute and detailed, although there is one insane poodle in the upper right), and the lamp. And maybe the fleece blanket, although that thing is pretty darn green. I'd replace the fitted sheet and dust ruffle with solid colors, and I would do something simple for the curtains. Then the room would be cute, but (I hope) not overwhelming. Not sure about wall color, but would have to be pretty neutral considering the strong colors here. I think this is apretty flexible theme, and the dumpling's fur-sibling is a black and white springer spaniel, so it's fitting too.
Ok, so those are your choices! Please let me know what you think below. Comments are welcome (and would be very helpful to us poor beleaguered parents-to-be). :-) Oh, and the first question allows you to pick more than one bedding set in case you like more than one...
