Short Art Update

Feb 24, 2009 21:21

Hey! First off, thanks for the sweet comments on my last entry. We really do love each other and I'm glad all of our friends (both his and mine) have such faith in us.

Not much else new to report... I got a raise at work! Sure its only 25 cents an hour, but hey, that's an extra 10$ a week. Not bad at all.

Aside from that, I've been messing with my new tablet. I've had an RO related art trade I needed to finish for awhile, and I decided to try it out using my tablet... Turned out quite nicely if I do say so myself. (Oh yes, and for those of you non-drawing types, an art trade is basically when you and another person agree to draw something for each other.  In this case, we sent each other pics/descriptions of our RO characters.)

Sephia the Champion

.

I realized about 3/4 of the way through the coloring that there really isn't enough contrast in the shading, everything looks sort of washed out... but by then I had been working for a good 10 hours total on it and was coming very close to eating my own head. Maybe I'll go back and fix it later, but for now I'm burnt out and need a break. I'm also still not quite happy with her face, but I never am happy with the faces I draw. xD

All that notwithstanding, I did enjoy working on this quite a bit, and I'm mostly happy with it! I really like how her hair, her red phoenix shirt, and her general body shape turned out. And that stupid tree stump, which took me 15 minutes to do, and looks better than other elements I spent hours on.

Although I must admit I did have help.  A good friend of mine from RO (two of our characters are married despite the fact that we're both committed straight females, ahahahahaha) is an outstanding artist, and she's been kind enough to help me with a lot of my recent pictures.  On this one she helped me streamline the facial features and the shapes of the hands, admittedly the two areas of anatomy I have the most trouble with.  ILU, Remi!

I also love quasionion , for using another of my RO characters as material for some of his own art practice;

Its my biracial and somewhat feral Champion as a young'un.  He didn't have the best childhood, as you can probably tell by looking at his haunted little face. I can definitely use this when I start posting my long-neglected history for him in my ROS journal! And no, this Tristan Skyshadow isn't the same Tristan Skyshadow as the one I played in that WtA tabletop game.  They have a few things in common, but they're different people for all intensive purposes.

Sometimes I wish I'd decided to go the route of the professional artist.  I feel like I really get in touch with my innermost psyche when I draw, and that I really share something special with the people who draw for me. Then again, I also wish I were a scientist, journalist and novelist. Eh well, I'll have to stick with being a dilettante!
