Today, several beginnings come together.

Indiction

Today marks the date that begins Indiction.  Every 15 years, a new tax was decided to pay for the army.  September 1 is the first day of each year.  It could be called the Roman New Year.  The Orthodox Church celebrates today as the New Year.

Ramadan

Today begins the Islamic Ramadan, a month of fasting.  Each day, they fast, and feast at night.  It is a time of patience and humility where they seek Allah.  It is a time of prayer.  This was the month revelation of the Quran started.

Elul

This it the first day of the month of Elul in the Jewish calendar.  It is the month of seeking.

Septimontium

This is the Roman festival of Septimontium.  On this day, at seven different times, seven sacrifices were made at shrines near each of the seven hills of Rome.  it was a time when the Emperor was very liberal with the people, and Romans refrained from using harse-drawn carriages.

Today is a day beginning a period of sacrifice and seeking.  It is time to seek the Divine.
