Evening and Morning
2 Now the earth was unformed and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the spirit of God hovered over the face of the waters.
3 And God said: 'Let there be light.' And there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
We saw that Hacah is equal to Night. Night, Darkness, came first. G-d caused Light, and it became morning. The Jewish people always use dusk as the beginning of the day, not dawn, for Night came first. Night is what it was like when it was only G-d. He created Day for us. A return to Silence is a return to G-d.
Holy Night
Tradition says Jesus was born at Night. The shepherds heard of his birth at Night, and came and found him, so this does fit. Many songs are sung of that Night. It was at Night that Christians see a new beginning, a new hope.
O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O holy night, O night divine!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
