Rabbi Hiyya said, "It is written: He makes Earth by His power. Why makes Earth? The verse should read: made Earth. But indeed, makes, continuously! The blessed Holy One illumines and arrays this Earth. By His power--the Righteous One.
~Zohar 1:33b (Pritzker Edition Vol. 1. Pg. 206)
This verse, "He makes Earth by His power," comes from Jeremiah 10:12. G-d didn't stop creating (though he rested from it on the seventh day), he is continuously creating the world. Some say that the world is completely destroyed and recreated every instant. I think his continuous creating of the world is the energy he puts into the world to hold it together. If he stopped putting this energy into the world for one instant, the world would cease to be.
Earth is Malkuth, the Shekhinah. His power comes to her from Tipherah. The Righteous One is Yesod (there's a verse, I forget where, that says something to the effect that the Righteous One is the foundation of the world). The power of G-d comes to the Shekhinah from Tipherah (Ze'ir Anpin) through Yesod. The imagery is sexual. Yesod is the penis of Ze'ir Anpin and the vagina of the Shekhinah, the Nukva.
