Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob...

Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob represent the middle triad in the Tree of Life.  Abraham represents Chesed, Mercy (or loving-kindness).  Isaac represents Geburah, Judgement (or might).  Jacob represents Tipherah, Beauty (or compassion).

Abraham represents Chesed, Mercy (or loving-kindness).  He represents unrestrained giving.  This is the type of giving that doesn't care about the worthiness of the recipient or the motivations of the giver.  The giver could give for the wrong reasons.  The recipient might be unable to handle what is given and squander it.

Isaac represents Geburah, Judgement (or might).  He balances Abraham's giving.  He introduces fear that the motives of the giver might be wrong, or that the recipient might be unworthy.  Isaac is giving restrained.

But Isaac restrains too much.  There needs to be a balance between Mercy and Judgement, loving-kindness and might, love and fear.  Jacob represents Tipherah, Beauty (or compassion).  This is the balance.  Jacob is compassion, love tempered by fear, but willing and able to overcome the fear to still give.
