dc r u wit me?!

Jul 06, 2003 20:00

i just got back from washington dc, which was the first time i had ever been there, or to the dirty down south.

it was kind of bizarre to go to the capital on the 4th, just seeing all the patriotic people coming to celebrate their love for the country. i never grew up with a very patriotic background, considering my parents never cared all that much. we did the usual fireworks thing on the 4th when i was younger, where one time a firework almost hit me via rockets, and then ceased as i got older. the 4th was always just another holiday to see fireworks without any meaning to me other than a very superficial one. patriotism? does not really mean anything to me. why does it not? i don't know. my cop out reason would be because the U.S. has done some pretty shitty things, but that's just such a stupid "punk rock" idea that it's pretty cliche and pretty much means nothing. i'm not a political person so i can't say with confidence that those issues are really valid in my judgement of patriotism or america. i did enjoy seeing many people wearing old navy shirts with the american flag on them, they all looked like sheep ready to do anyone's bidding. whatever, i had a fun time. i need a shower though.
