there's no better state to cease to exist

Sep 25, 2006 01:30

so
i am back from san francisco.

i left last friday, with my family. we aimed for the 3:00 ferry but it was full so we waited for the 4:00.

the ferry ride to vancouver!

so we spent the friday night in vancouver. went to richmond mall for some shopping.. i ended up finding a sweet pair of jeans.

at 5am we were on our way to the airport. we were met by intense lines, unorganization and paranoia. after an hour and a half we were checked in and made it through customs and had a very short wait until the flight. the flight was totally fine, except that since i had (and still have) a cold, my ears went nuts with the pressure and i couldn't hear through my right ear for two days. everything just sound muffled and far off. so frustrating!

but i arrived!

i am always so amazed by the highways in big cities!

so first thing i see on our way to the pier; yes a ben and jerrys store! i did not know they existed! there were three different locations within 10 minutes of my hotel.

this was at the end of the pier..

alcatraz; view from the end of the pier. i was very surprised at how close alcatraz really was to land. i had imagined it to be much further out, but the boat ride was about all of 6 minutes.

so san fran has sea lions. a sea lion infestation, some may say? they were hilarious to watch because the biggest males each had a platform to themselves and whenever someone came to close or onto their platform they would just start barking. i could hear them at night from the hotel balcony even.

and there are pelicans?! i was so uneducated on san francisco's wildlife!

the chocolate factory. located atop of a hill. '

i had this delicious hot fudge sundae at the chocolate factory. i would like another about now.

golden gate in the distance.

i came across an army of these scooter...transportation devices.....they were on a tour and i tried to take a picture of them.

football game

we ended up being chauffeured to and from the football game by the hotels chauffeur, Dennis. he was about 40 years of age, had 5 kids, knew a ton about san fran and what he didn't know, he would call his wife to find out, and when he spoke, he'd say 'mmhmmmmmmm' all the time. this was his business card.

the san francisco 49ers...playground, pre-game thing? it was an area of the parking lot filled with inflatable 49ers games and such.

monster park.

my protection shield! since we were in san fran for the st louis rams, the 49er's fans outnumbered the rams fans hardcore and my brother was decked out in rams merch, 49ers fans repeatedly yelled at him and my dad 'to go home', they were 'losers' (real original), and there was a lot of bickering. my mom and i followed behind with the 49ers foam finger as protection, so we were never yelled at.

my mom holding the tickets!

the mighty escalator up to our seats!

there were a lot of people there. prior to the game, many fans park there cars and a tailgate party ensues. its basically everyone getting drunk and barbecuing while prepping for the 'big game'. its also hilarious to walk around and see the crazy fans.

the stadium held 70,000 people.

they really go all out at football games! i was quite entertained by the fireworks, bands, cheerleaders, field-sized american flag, and two perfectly timed jets flying overhead.

what?! this sign was posted everywhere.

warm up!

rams fans!

at one point, the rams were winning...

this killed me. this bottle of water was $4.50. with that price it was worthy of a photo?

i take that back. if anything nearly killed me, it was this woman in the pink hat who wanted so badly to be shown on the television screen. so she 'danced' at any moment possible. and then during halftime she managed to get drunk and continue to 'dance' and spill beer on people for the second half.

cheerleaders...........i liked their boots.....

so i remembered to sunscreen my face..and my arms, but completely forgot about the rest of me. the result: this mega burn.
it somehow did not hurt too much and now, it is one wicked tan. yet super funny looking.

alcatraz

this was at one point the dance hall, i believe.

power plant smoke stack.

this is inside of the prison somewhere. there was a broken window and my mom stuck the camera through and took the photo..

a cell.

inside the 'barber shop' and i was not sure where it lead, if anywhere.

in the courtyard/rec area. it was so incredibly windy there! just in this one particular area! it wasn't even a windy day except for this area, it was so strange.

i think this was the wardens house.

during an escape attempt by six prisoners, these bullet holes were created. all six prisoners were killed.

alcatraz was very interesting to visit. it felt..a lot less haunted than i had expected. it was very sad to see the isolation cells, the cells that faced san fran where the wind always whips though. and the solitary cells which are just a solid steel door. the men who were put in the solid cells would throw a button up into the air and then crawl around to find, just to not go crazy. i was very surprised at how young many of the men sent there were. some as young as 18. i had always thought it was sort of the 'last resort' prison. i now really want to watch a movie revolving around alcatraz or something.

other stuff

we took a trolley car to downtown.

the architecture was beautiful but i was usually too busy looking at it to take a picture..

uhm...i passed this while on the trolley....

the transamerica building!

downtown.

my mom and i went to a bagel shop! look at all the options!!!!

transamerica taken from china town.

san francisco had wonderful candy stores and i just couldn't get over this! look at all the colours of m&m's!! i have never seen half of those before!

zoltar! recited my fortune on the pier.

the sunsets were amazing

this was spray painted all over downtown....

hahaaa.........it entertained me..

so this post fell apart. i am too tired to go into great detail, but at least photos are visible!
and, how happy was i to come home to a new okkervil river ep? it is so bloody great!!
and and, what i saw of final fantasy was beautiful. i wish i could have seen the whole performance, but what i heard was just amazing!!
