international spell check

Feb 21, 2009 12:43

In our Japanese text book, it claims that the Japanese word for "part-time job," in katakana is spelled アルバイト. This is true-- "arubaito" is taken from the German word meaning "work," hence the katakana.

アルバイト is, when translated into the original word, "arbeit." However, the authors of the textbook spelled it... "albeit."

The Australians who wrote the Japanese textbook screwed up their German spelling.

Hilarity ensues.

(I'm just glad it wasn't us Americans that made the fluke, you know?)
