So those of you who read my posts while I was writing my holmestice piece probably know that I feel more than a little proud of what I wrote and that I had a wonderful time researching it and writing it. Also that it's fairly long.

After I turned it in with positive comments from beta-reader and Brit-picker, I allowed myself the luxury of thinking it would be one of the better pieces posted this round. I even thought that it had a chance of being THE best.

Well, it turns out I was wrong, because what is probably going to be the best story in this round posted this morning, and it was written for me. One of my prompts was to re-tell a canon story that Watson got wrong, preferably involving subject matter that Doyle wouldn't have written about due to Victorian mores and/or fixing problematic aspects of the story.

What I received was an absolutely gorgeous re-telling of that strange, early-Holmes fiasco The Musgrave Ritual, shaded delightfully by the BBC/Granada production starring Jeremy Brett, and featuring a slow-burning Holmes/Watson romance that develops into one of the most passionate, utterly romantic love scenes I've read between them, all written in a pitch-perfect Watson voice. It is so beautiful that I cried, even as I laughed in delight that someone wrote this for me. I'm probably going to have to go back and write additional reviews because I am so overwhelmed right now that I'm sure there are loads of things that I forgot to praise.

But short squee long: if you have any love for Arthur Conan Doyle's stories and dig Holmes/Watson, you really, really need to read this story. Here are the vital stats. Go. Read. Be made breathless. Review.

Yours in raptures,

Title: The Truth of the Musgrave Ritual
Characters/Pairings: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson (ACD Canon & Granada Series)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings/Kinks/Contents: First time, case fic, romance.
Summary: It is my custom, you may have noticed, to save those little cases which we have solved until such time as danger to those involved has passed, or until Holmes otherwise suggests I may write about them. The happenings at Hurlstone Hall, however, received a very different treatment indeed.
