Okay, Sherlock fangirls:
Hie thee to
holmestice and read
the gift that just posted for me:
Title: With a Cup in One Hand and a Sword in the Other
Characters/Pairings: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, Mycroft Holmes, DI Lestrade, Mrs. Hudson, OFC
Rating: Mature
Word Count: ~16,000
Warnings: Brief description of a child experiencing pain, mentions of drug use, M/M sexual content
Other Tags: Magical Realism, Demisexuality, First Time, Tarot
Summary: John's true self expresses as a Wand and Sherlock's as a Sword, so whatever they are, they're perfectly matched. Except maybe Sherlock isn't entirely a Sword. This would bear examining, if it weren't for the murderer stalking Deaths.
I am utterly floored by this incredibly rich piece of magical realism, which features a world in which people manifest suits of the tarot and particular cards depending on their state of mind. Sherlock, who underwent a mysterious and painful procedure when he was a child, continues to feel the aftereffects as an adult, and he must face his past in order to stop a murderer. You should run, not walk to read it now and give the author the love she deserves, because this is a truly exceptional story that everybody should read. I will merely point to the subject and grin wickedly before returning to my post-amazing-story bouncing and squeeing.
