So 2011 was my Year of Women reading theme, including books by women and featuring interesting female protagonists. I read 31 books as part of the theme and am listing the ones I rated 4 or 5 stars at Goodreads below- more than half of them, which shows that it was a highly enjoyable year!

Books! )
I do read popular fiction, I just try very hard to read things that won't leave me feeling gross or annoyed at the end. If someone whose taste I trust warns me about something specific in a book that I know will annoy me, in "The Help"'s case, self-congratulatory smugness about racial tolerance, I probably won't go out of my way to read it. I won't be reading the Twilight series, Jodi Picoult, The Time Traveler's Wife, or see because I've been similarly warned off about very specific aspects of the narrative that I know will really bug me.
LOL at Ozzy- I never watched his show, but I saw enough promos for it to understand exactly what you mean. I'm reading a book of short stories by contemporary authors inspired by the Sherlock Holmes canon called "A Study in Sherlock." Some are really fun, some are kind of meh. Either way, lots to talk about when I'm done! :D
