Swedeness and Light

Friday was take-it-easy day after the miraculously smooth wisdom tooth extraction.

By Saturday afternoon, taking-it-easy was getting really old. So once Northwestern emerged victorious over Wisconsin, I touched up the paint in the living room, cleaned out the guest closet, consolidated boxes of winter clothes/sporting equipment, rearranged the contents shed to maximize space, and moved everything that was under the stairs to a new home. When Mr. 42 got home from work, he was too surprised to refuse me a trip to Ikea :D Our list consisted of cheap lighting fixtures and an end table. We ended up walking out with significantly more than that, but it was all stuff that we'd been looking for. We were so pleased that we went to the pub for dinner and cribbage to celebrate. My mouth was still reluctant to open very wide, so I had a marvelous and easy-to-cut-up brewer's plate consisting of sausage, fresh fruit, and good cheese. Mmmm!

Sunday was furniture assembly and football day, which went well (go Chargers!). The furniture purchase I'm most pleased with is the under-stair shelving-and-storage unit that's unobtrusive, simple, doesn't break up the flow of rooms, and holds just about half of our cellar (cellar = bottle-conditioned ales that we're aging). Previously, our entire cellar was stacked in boxes the pantry, three high in places, which made accessing the contents difficult and cataloging even more so. We went through the whole cellar last night and grouped the bottles by maker, beer, and year, and we're putting it all in electronic format so we can keep the boxes consolidated. Just to give you an idea of how much extra space it was taking up, after consolidating, we had six empty cases. Plus, we now have some extra-special things in the fridge that are of a good age to drink! We celebrated with a bottle of Cuvee de Tomme and a rousing game of Bookworm Adventures.

Remaining House Projects:

Living room- convert stoopid built-in entrance grate into pretty screen, adjust lighting.

Guest room - replace bed linens, put up art.

Half bath- paint and put up art.

Office and Hall: put up art.

Patio- tear up astroturf, chip off adhesive, lay down tile, procure furniture, landscape, possibly install a pergola if we're feeling really ambitious.

Front stoop- strip astroturf, find and install pretty enamel tiles.

Not that any of this is going to get done in the immediate future, as it's a short, frantic work-week followed by four days in Camarillo with Mr. 42's folks. It's kind of nice to have some enforced R&R. I'm much more likely to get writing done, and I want to write, but boxes have been distracting. And there will be family, food, and football, which is always lovely :D

Right! Loads to do, and only three days to do it!

Love to All,

Lib
