Beer Consumed at lost Abbey Rare Bottle Tasting:
Devotion- nonaggressive hoppy Belgian-style, not very rare, but used as base for other beers
Brother Levonian Saison- one-time Saison brewed with tamarind and tangerine peel. Nice, and not to be confused with Ballast Point's also-nice Brother Levonian Saison (both beers brewed and named in honor of a late, great homebrewer).
Carnevale- killer seasonal made with American hops and brettanomyces.
Red Barn- special batch of delicious Saison brewed with brett.
Inferno- Lost Abbey does Duvel, dry, strong, and delicious.
Veritas 001- mixed from meh batches of Cuvee du Tomme and others, oak-aged, sour, delicious.
Veritas 002- mixed from Old Viscosity, Redstone Black Raspberry Mead, and Devotion. Good, perhaps past its prime regarding raspberry notes, luscious honey still present on back end.
Veritas 003- a testament to the power of the cuvee. Appropriate mixture turned two meh beers into something delicious.
Veritas 004- part peach beer, part various other fizzy sour beers. Effervescent and exquisite
Veritas 005- experimental batch (6 cases made) featuring native SoCal grapes and sour beer. Deep ruby in color, sour, complex, and dry on the finish. Admirable, though not my favorite.
Veritas 006- "Beer Sangria," a mix of Redstone Raspberry Mead, orange, sour cherry, and grape-based barrel aged beers. Sweeter than expected, but thoroughly appropriate, and absurdly lovely to drink. Highly recommended for people who "don't like beer," if you can find any.
Worst Puns Made:
Suggested nickname for Alesmith
Kopi Luwak Speedway Stout (made with
Civet coffee): Civet Doodie
Suggested name for a new Lost Abbey beer to be aged in tequila barrels: Agave Maria
